Toyota has announced that they are retiring the 3G Network. Won't be supported by many carriers after 2022. The affected models are: 2012-2014 Toyota RAV4 EV 2012-2015 Toyota Prius Plug-in 2016-2017 Toyota Mirai You can read more details here: 3G Network Retirement This is going to impact a fair number of vehicles. Anyone know if there is a retrofit or upgrade package of any kind? I doubt that Toyota will offer one as they will want you to buy a new car.... Thanks, Phil
This happened to the Nissan Leaf, which originally only had 2G. It was phased out which left the car with a worthless transceiver. Being threatened with litigation, Nissan sold the 3G upgrade at cost, only charging for labor, which was still like getting stiffed for their poor foresight. We ponied up the money for 3G, only to have the battery capacity quickly get too low for practical purposes. .
At least they gave us a two-year notice. I use the app suite all the time for Eco Dashboard and Charge Management. Used Safety Connect one time and trip-planning a few times. Never had to use Vehicle Finder yet.
Here is the complete list of 'Safety Connect' vehicles...wow... 2011-2017 Toyota Sienna 2012-2016 Toyota Prius v 2013-2018 Toyota Avalon/HV 2012-2014 Toyota RAV4 EV 2012-2015 Toyota Prius Plug-in 2013-2017 Toyota Camry/HV 2016-2017 Toyota Mirai 2010-2016 Toyota Prius 2014-2018 Toyota Highlander/HV 2011-2017 Toyota Land Cruiser 2010-2019 Toyota 4Runner You would think that, with this many vehicles, Toyota would come up with an upgrade solution.
There's irony in that a good part of the nation has already switch to 5G, & Toyota is working on 3 to 4G .
