I don't think they'd do it without having the codes. If I recall correctly, you've had the failure multiple times where the car goes into fail safe mode, and each time it's given one of the codes indicated in the TSB. Then you reset the codes, and everything functions properly... is that right? If so, it may be worth a call to the service department. My hunch is that they'll say to have it towed to them the next time it happens.
Yes my car has gone into limp mode before and one day multiple complete shutdowns, however I do not believe I have had any of the four codes needed to get the recall done. I had a bad waterpump that I think had to do with that but no overheat warning and since I have replaced my tired 15 year old hybrid battery and got the Dr. prius pack I have had zero issues. I really just want to see if there is a way of getting toyota to honor the recall without directly getting there with either of the four codes they say they need. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Are we talking about a recall, or a warranty extension? If it's a recall, there are no conditions, they have to make an appointment for you and do it. If it's a warranty extension, the thing being warranted against has to happen.
Not really a recall it is the ZE3 enhanced warranty extention. Im just not willing to gamble for the next 4-5 years that the IPM doesnt fail. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
We had ZERO problems w/ours until the IPM failed. But it did have the codes, even tho I attempted to clear/reset them they came back right away. That Transistor Kit they put in is $1200-1500 alone.. and does not include all the parts used or labor. Part Number for ours was 04899-47070.. tho, the part number varies depending on the exact error codes and probably year of the car, etc. Personally, I highly doubt you'll get them to replace it under the Warranty Enhancement without the codes. If you can reset it and still drive it, I'd tend to think that it hasn't failed and there is something else causing it to go into limp mode. I hate to say, but I'd suggest as the others did to let it be.. and drive it in limp mode to them, let them read the codes directly. I think that's the only way you'll get them to replace the IPM under the ZE3.
If I'm reading this right, there might be a key here. On these previous occasions, I take it you retrieved the codes, and they were different codes than the ones involved in the ZE3 warranty extension? Have you followed through on the troubleshooting for the codes you did get? I understand hoping you could maybe get a fix under a warranty for a problem you're not having, it's probably also worthwhile to track down whatever problem you are having.
The times it went into limp mode for me had to do with the hybrid battery I had and I fixed that myself the very same time I also had a waterpump issue and I fixed both issues and was good and passed smog but right before I replaced the waterpump is when it powered down and lost all power in which I continued to clear codes all the way home. Since then I have no issues now and the Dr. prius battery is great!!! I guess I will roll the dice with the IPM like everyone else and know I have a little warranty left. yes, if you haven't gone into limp mode since you made those repairs then I would assume that you solved the problem. If the IPM fails, IMO, it's not gonna allow you to clear codes to get you going again. In our case they said the transistors on the IPM failed. They said shorted.. shorted (ie: failed)
