Blue Magnetism or Classic Silver Metallic—help me decide

I am thinking of upgrading from my 2020 Prius Prime XLE Classic Silver Metallic to a 2021 Prius Prime Limited, as the BSM and TSS 2.0 have turned out to be musts.

Currently I have the Classic Silver Metallic, which is an extremely classy color that hides virtually all dirt. I also haven't had any issues with visibility and tailgating.

However, I also like the Blue Magnetism. What do you guys think? Do people who have the Blue Magnetism like it? Do they have any issues with that color? Does anyone have both colors?

By the way I have absolutely no interest in the other colors; therefore, please limit the discussion to these two colors.

 

Thank you, PriusChat friends, for sharing your opinions. I've fallen in love with the Blue Magnetism. I think it is the best color choice for the Prius Prime. It carries a tremendous safety advantage because it is by far the most visible color in all conditions among the color options. It hardly shows dust because it is a relatively light color. It has small metal flakes in it but not large metal flakes as in the so-called metallic paints. I like it better that it is closer to a solid paint. It has an excellent unique hue, which is not really a blue but a bluish teal. It is very classy looking—even more so than the Classic Silver Metallic.

I test-drove it at Huntington Beach Toyota on Saturday while I was heading to the gym—sadly the gyms may be closing here again. Here are some photos with my Classic Silver Metallic next to it.













I traded in my 2020 XLE Classic Silver Metallic for a 2021 Limited Edition Blue Magnetism at Longo Toyota on Monday. Wow, what a day-and-night difference between the XLE and Limited Edition! It feels like I am driving an entirely different car! For some reason the 2021 handles a lot better, too. It could be because of the new Dunlop Enasave 01 A/S tires as opposed to the Toyo NanoEnergy A41 on the 2020. Therefore, I love driving this car. it is a huge upgrade over the 2020 XLE. Unless you are on a strict budget, I recommend skipping the mid-trim XLE, as you are missing so much by not getting the Limited Edition. I got $4200 below MSRP. My 2020 had cost me $23,950 out-the-door after the credits and rebates, and I traded it in for $23,000. I am extremely happy with this great purchase decision I've made to say the least. I've lowered my car payments by increasing the duration by a year, and I will get $6,502 in cash in terms of credits and rebates, and I will be happily driving the top-of-the-line Prius Prime with my color of choice.

 

Several incorrect statements there.

I had a red car once. It had the worse visibility of all cars I had because humans can't see the color red peripherally. You can test for this by holding a red object at almost 90 degrees on your side.

Older? Not really. If that were the case, every light-color car would look brand-new and vice versa, which is not the case.

Hotter? As I said this not really a dark color, not to mention it is reflective. Besides, you get the most heat through the glass (the greenhouse effect), not through the metal.

Of course, color is merely a preference at the end—go with whatever you like.

Definitely go with the Limited Edition trim if you can afford it though.

 

Again, not correct.

This is a greenish blue, which is toward the middle of the visible-color spectrum—yellowish green is in the middle. Moreover, it is not a dark color. So, it is highly visible in terms of both the hue and intensity. Black, dark gray (midnight gray), and red are the three colors that you should avoid if visibility is a concern. They will all look black under dark conditions and red has poor peripheral visibility. Blue Magnetism (which is a dark cyan or medium teal) is great, and silver, white, and gold (titanium) are OK. But silver and gold can blend in with the pavement in some lighting conditions or rain. Blue Magnetism will have excellent visibility in rain.

See the color in person before you make any statement. It stands out. I almost thought it stood out too much and was hard on the eyes because it looked so flashy and vibrant under the sun when I first saw it—imagine looking at a cyan computer screen. However, that vibrancy and flash is also a plus, and I really liked it at the end.

 

Yes, the Limited Edition is absolutely wonderful!

Huge difference. Huntington Beach didn't give me a good deal at all. At first they tried to mark up the price above the MSRP, and then they were giving me very little for my trade-in. However, the sales person at Huntington Beach was great and really helpful. It was just the managers who wouldn't give a good deal on the car and trade-in. Moreover, the car they had had 107 miles on it and had the all-weather mats already installed—possibly bought and returned because the financing didn't go through.

Longo in El Monte is great. However, I had to show them the offer from another dealer to match the dealer discount. The other dealer may have been having problem selling the car because it had paint-protection film. Longo is the biggest Toyota dealer in the world and they have a huge inventory. They only have ten Limited Edition Blue Magnetism Prius Primes in Southern California and Longo had four of them. Most dealers don't carry this trim and color combination. They are really good with trade-ins, as they have an automatic trade-in procedure where you upload pictures with your phone, and they match the Edmunds trade-in price, which is slightly higher than that of Carvana. Longo also doesn't put any dealer add-ons on their cars like some other dealers, with the exception of Theft Patrol GPS tracker, which you can kindly decline. Likewise the finance manager offers warranty and gap insurance, but you can again kindly decline.

You still need to shop around and have the offers matched though. Initially they gave me about a $900 less dealer discount. At the end the $2,400 dealer discount on top of the $1,750 factory rebate was a good deal, and I didn't have to bother with Carvana. Everything was put on the new 2.49% loan with nothing coming out of my pocket, which I got through my bank—lower spread-out car payments ($70 a month less) and about $8,000 cash coming into my pocket thanks to the rebates, credits, and not having to make loan payments for two months. Gotta love the Prius Prime deals.
