I am thinking of taking my car into the dealer and see if they will replace the IPM under the extended warranty that is valid until August 2024 My car has had the E0E in 2014 Also got the J0V in 2018 I had issues that fit in line with that and just want to be safe while driving. Did that before I posted and it is all in a case file. They should be calling me by 10am monday to go over my complaints. I just wanted to hear from anyone if they gone through this. @DogDaze is the closest example for my situation. I do not have any of the four codes needed to get the IPM replaced. But he just got it done and I believe he had no codes to show them because he pulled the 12volt. As long as you have had the two other software recalls that should give a better chance at getting it replaced. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I do not have a code reader, so I don't know exactly which codes were in it.. yes, I did reset the battery connection, but that proved to be fruitless.. they same error and I presume the code returned upon first start up. I was told prior to taking the car in that there are many other issues that can cause the car to go into limp mode.. but in our case, they were able to determine that it was a failed IPM module. (they said the transistors on the IPM had indeed shorted/failed) I think the only way you will know is to let them diagnose the car and the codes. I have not heard of the IPM only partially failing.. it either works or it don't.. but there do seem to be many variables that cause this similar behavior. Maybe it is only partially failed. but regardless, hopeful that they will replace it for you if it continues to fail.
Thanks for the reply and Im going to try and push the issue of it already having two software updates and still completely killed itself which is extremely dangerous. I understand lomp mode which I have seen it do ever since I bought it pretty much, it all has to do with your hybrid battery, if it is not in good condition then it will cause the IPM to overwork. we have the car back, ZERO cost.. and seems to be AOK so far.. They didn't say anything about the hybrid battery or any issues with it.
A prius i'm looking to buy had one of the codes for the ze3 enhancement (2012), but a mobile hybrid mechanic swapped out the inverter to fix it. I don't have the carfax, but on every 'just list the recall' vin lookup website it includes the 14V053000, and it has no OPEN recalls on it, so unless i'm misudnerstanding how this all works it should have been covered. I'm thinking the mobile mechanic either didn't know about this (if he's a hybrid specialist working in the industry for 20 years... shouldn't he?), or failed to look into it to save himself the money.
