A couple days ago I got in my 2007 Prius and the small battery was dead for no good reason. I charged it and all was good two days. I just got in the car, put in drive and got the death triangle along with the msg" Shift to park, the battery's won't charge if in neutral" which it wasn't. No msg. in reverse but with it in D or B. Any ideas? BTW, about 6 mo. ago I pulled the big battery and replaced a bad cell. Thanks, Bob.
I thought I posted yesterday, but couldn't find it. I'll try again. 3days ago the battery was dead in my 2007 for no good reason. I charged it and all was good for a day. Last night I started it, and the triangle of death came on with a flashing msg: "the battery will not charge with the car in gear, shift to park". Put in in park the msg goes away (which doesn't get me to the grocery store), In D or B it starts up again, but not in R. I don't feel comfortable backing up where ever I go. Any ideas? Thanks, Bob.
Perhaps the charge wasn't enough for your 12v and it's time for a new one? Here's the highest quality battery for Prius needs, which also happens to be the best price too... You'll need some extra bolts and washers from hardware store to mount terminals too: 12 Volt (12V) 55 Amp (55Ah) VRLA AGM Sealed Lead Acid Battery 55 AMPS HIGH CAP | eBay
+1 for 12V battery. Replace or have it charged and load tested. A bad or weak 12V on a Prius will cause all kinds of havoc. It doesn't mean that you don't have any other problems BUT you need to be sure that it is good before you can evaluate anything else on the car. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
This makes positively NO SENSE. Post #1 in this very thread is almost identical to this one. If you found this thread, how is is possible that you could NOT find the first post ????????????? Answers have been given. But maybe you "can't find" them either.
Before you replace the 12 volt battery check out this thread. It might fit what is happening with your car. P Lock C2310 Fix Fixed Solved Solution | PriusChat
Is this the warning you are seeing? That's just Toyota speak for "shut the door dummy, your car is in drive". It lights up with the drivers door open in D and B but not P, N, or R.
No harm in reading through that BUT...... Given that he has had trouble with the battery recently, doing ANYTHING else before at least testing it would not be wise.
A youtube shows how to get into Prius Maintenance Mode. There should be a 12 volt battery screen somewhere in maintenance mode that will give clues to 12 volt health and other diagnostics. This video shows have to get in on both gen2 and 3
