I bought a 2017 Toyota Prius about 2 months ago. I work for Grubhub so it seems like a decent car for the job. It's just so boring and weird to drive. This is my first CVT. Diesel trucks are always racing me and blowing smoke everywhere. I'm not racing them. I don't care. I am making lots of money with Grubhub. Not bragging, just saying. I know I can afford a much more fun car than the prius. Maybe I don't know how good I have it. I do like the idea of a manual sedan or hatchback with a 4 cylinder or 6 that feels pretty sporty. Or just convince me to keep the prius. What do you guys think? Thanks.
If a manual is tugging at your heartstrings, I’d say go for it. They’re getting more and more rare so I’d say jump on the opportunity while you can. E.g. Honda is probably not bringing a manual with the next gen Civic due to arrive next year. A manual V6 is even rarer.
I delivered pizzas in my 1963 Triumph TR4. It was a lot of fun, but that was over 50 years ago. I didn't concern myself with MPG back when gasoline was $0.25 per gallon. JeffD
A Prius is an economical car that was designed to be better for the environment and save money. It has slow acceleration and a softer suspension, but it’s very reliable. If that’s not the type of car you want, then feel free to get something else. A Prius will never be described as sporty, so if that’s what you want, it sounds like you should get something that better matches what you’re looking for.
I drive doordash and enjoy spending virtually nothing on gas. I personally enjoy the feel of driving the Prius. Sure I enjoy being behind the wheel of a sport car too, but I prefer the comfort and reliability of the Prius. Just do keep in mind: sporty cars are usually driven in a manner that gets lower mpg than EPA, so you'll be spending quite a bit more. I average $1 per mile doordashing. Lets say I make $24k over an entire year working part time. Thats roughly 24K miles, at 50 mpg, and $2 per gallon. Totaling $960 for gas. Let's say you get a Honda civic at 31 city mpg with the same distance and income. Thats $1548. Is it worth it to you to spend upwards of $600 give or take extra on gas per year so that you can enjoy your drive? That's up to you to decide. Depending on gas prices where you are, and what car you choose, it could be a larger or smaller difference. Of course if you do enjoy a new ride more. You'll likely feel better while working, and have more fun, which is very important. Plus having more fun may lead you to working more, thus making more. There's no definite answer to your question. You just ought to weigh the pros and cons. Just don't go with a Ram 1500 TRX pickup at 12 mpg. Which could cost up to $4000 on gas for the estimates listed above.
You could go full electric, instant torque and nippy but limited top end speed (unless you fork out loads of $s for a Tesla). The only problem is, you'd need a home charger as with your mileage you would be charging it up every night.
I wished you lived near my area as I would love to buy a 2017 Prius. I am also looking at 2018 Mazda3 Sport Hatchback, but Prius owners have been telling me that the more expensive ~2017 Prius is much better than Mazda3.
Have you found the mode button to switch from Eco, Normal and Power? If not, find it and switch to Power mode and enjoy!!
I currently have a 2007 Prius that I use to deliver a paper route. We like it so much it’s now our every day car. I’m currently looking at buying a 2018 for the same use.
it's a personal choice. There is a connotation about driving a prius and many of us either accept it or don't care too much about it. The Prius did move towards a spaceship like feel, but after some time, I personally got use to it. I do enjoy using the Power mode and feeling more on par with a normal car when passing up people or entering an on ramp, but I leave it on normal mode most of the time.
