Digits 7-11 are the last half of the battery model number
Digits 12 and 13 are the year (13=2013)
    Digit 14=month (5=May)
Digits 15 and 16 are day of the month (23)

    That battery was assembled 5/23/2013

    That seller has a battery from a 2013 they're selling as a 2016

Thank you for your interpretation. What does letter 'JTH' means. Could you provide us any source of your decoding?

What does the first letter indicate? I would guess that it might be a code for the plant that produced the battery or maybe what path of equipment was used to fabricate it. The reason I ask is that my modules don't have an initial letter, they start with 147F, which I assume would be July 14, 2002.

If you wonder how long battery modules sit around, my car (2004) was purchased in September 2004, and being the original owner, I know that the HV battery has not been out of the car until now. Seems like a long time for the battery to be sitting around. Battery Module Serial Number.JPG Battery Pack Label.JPG

The letter coding of modules is 2 years different from the battery case serial number coding. So in your case, F = 2004 which would make the manufacturing date July 14, 2004. So they haven't sat around for long at all.

Thanks for the response. Sorry, I was getting module and serial numbers mixed up. The serial number on my case doesn't look like the standard number scheme. Maybe it's like the VIN number on my 1979 Honda motorcycle that I had to explain to the MVA was the real VIN even though it doesn't have enough characters.

    Modules 147F= 7/14/2004
    Case 237H= 7/23/2004

Makes perfect sense, Case was assembled one week after modules were manufactured.

I just always remember that L is 2010 on a module and the case is always 2 years earlier L=2008
The earlier gen 1, 2, serial number style use XYZ for October, November and December
The later serial numbers on the cases use ABC

The H in the serial number designates it as being intended for a Prius

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was figuring that the year codes would be the same between the modules and the cases. I'm glad to hear that I was mistaken and the modules weren't sitting around somewhere.

16 years and 190K miles doesn't seem too bad for any car, so I don't think any less of the Prius because a couple of modules finally wore out. I'm sure Toyota didn't expect anyone to keep their cars this long. The battery packs definitely lasted the lifetime of the car, or at least a normal car.

I've finished replacing all of the modules with the ones I bought from NPB. The wiring is finished and the battery pack is all buttoned up, now I just need to have a friend help me move it back into the back of the car and I'll see how it works.

Could anyone decode this new type of date code?

This is my first time seeing that specific format, so right now, your guess is as good as mine!

The 52031 part is easy, so the date must be in the remainder of it, but I don't know the coding.
