Hard wiring a dual dash Cam to 2015 prius? How tricky is it?

hhhmmm.. Well, I bought the same type of setup, (hardwire kit).. I did NOT install it, as maybe it didn't seem difficult, but just very time consuming to try and "hide" the wire under the molding around the window and roof..
The other thing, was I even bought the extra long wire to put the "rear" camera in, but couldn't get past 2 things.
1) the rear camera would have to be mounted on the flat windshield on the trunk that in Washington state is always dirty, so no view
2) if as stated mounted on that piece of windshield on the trunk, I would have to leave a big loop of wire to enable the trunk to open/close

sssssoooo, I just ran the power from the accessory tray under the shifter where I added a dual usb port tied into the cig lighter wire.. then I ran it behind and up thru the dash.

Those hardwire kits should take less than an hour to install to someone not experienced. It's very easy. Watch a video on youtube ( doesn't have to be Prius specific) as most cars are about the same to install. I've hardwired a cam to my Prius, sienna, and a few other vehicles over the years.

I personally would not use a kit that taps into an existing wire and I use an add a fuse type thing or use an used fuse.

 

I also put my "water proof" camera in the lower window. I put it off center so I wouldn't see it.
But wished I had just put it in the center!
The first one I had installed in the same place the OEM one would be. But over time 3 of the 4 led's
went out, and the camera would go out when it rained. I think it is water resistant, no proof.
Before you totally secure the rear camera, adjust the position so it points where you want it.

I don't use it for backing up, I can look in my side mirror and over my shoulder much better.
I used it to record any crazy tailgater!

You need to remove the trim. There are 4 nuts I believe to remove the outer center trim piece,
then the rest pops off. You may NOT need to do this, can't remember.
The rubber grommet pulls out, carefully. Then run a stiffer wire through and
tape the end of the camera wire to it and pull it through. Silicone spray will help it slide through easily.
And spray some on the grommet to push it back in.
You will also have to pull the trim down on the back of the head liner to access the wire to run it along
the side.
I pulled the trim along the drivers side to hide the wire. Then across the front head liner. You'll have to pull
the visor off to get the wire out of the way. And then down from the front of the rear view mirror.

For power, I used the adapter that came with the camera, ran it under the dash, up the drivers side
windshield pillar and across front of the headliner with the camera cable.
I installed a 12V cigarette lighter plug under the dash and found and empty spot in the fuse box.
I have not had any problems with it and it's been installed for well over a year.
