Why did you choose a Prius Prime over a fully EV vehicle?

    What am I missing here. 800 miles @ 65 mpg = about 12 gallons. $65 ??

Maybe they filled up in Death Valley both ways? I think it was over $5/gal at one of the stations when I went (and much more reasonable at the other). I did buy a few gallons at >$5 because it was better than running out or driving an hour or more out of my way to somewhere cheaper.

Its was over $5 dollars a gallon here in CA but in AZ it was like $2.50. I had about 3/4 a tank when I started and just left it on Radar cruise control until my bladder told me to stop. A few days later, gassed up in Prescott, and came home.

Also the 62.7MPG was an average of both going and coming home totaling almost 800 miles.

For me it was cost, pure and simple. My usual commute is short enough that I usually drive all electric with the Prime, but I would prefer a 100% electric. A Tesla could take me on the long trips easily enough, but the cost was just too high. Maybe in the long run it will be cheaper (though the Prime is pretty cheap to operate), but I had kids starting college and it just didn't seem responsible to take an extra $10 to 20k out of my savings up front on the hope of making it back in the far future.

Price. I'm not aware of any pure electric vehicle I can purchase for $17,000 after tax rebates and local incentives.

I paid about $23,000 after incentives which is low for a new car never mind one packing the specifications of a Prius Prime. For that price you are getting a tremendous value on a new car which is the result of years of development and proven around the world. I am super impressed by the technology, ease of use, build quality and refinement of what is both an electric car and a hybrid car built into one. The other thing is Toyotas unlike luxury brands can be kept and maintained economically for years on end. Its a car you can give to a family member without hesitation that it will be an expensive problem for them. Luxury cars quickly get to a point that their maintenance costs exceed their value and you need to sell them for virtually nothing.

I used to believe that, but now I do not. The gasoline engine is the least reliable part, and in a hybrid it is used less and in less stressful ways, leading to improved reliability.

The Prime is just a better version of the regular Prius, in that you can perform short trips without having to warm up the engine.

Haved lived with an EV for a while range anxiety is also a factor. Every other week I travel a bit over 300km. If you consider the range reduction in winter, aging battery packs, 80% charge recommendations and the penalty for traveling at highway speeds, I would probably have to stop in the freezing cold to charge.

And with the Prius Prime, running the battery down to 0% is not a concern. But with an EV I found that felt uncomfortable if the SoC dropped below 10%.

To me the Prime just ticks all the boxes. It does what I need, with zero emissions for most trips, and then with zero hassle when I have to go far.

So I could go out of town without having to worry about range, wait for slow charging, or stay on the beaten path. And it worked.

When I was looking for our second car, I looked for both Leaf S and Ioniq EV locally, but could not find either one in stock. Neither one would be cheaper than PriusPrim eve with tax credit, but both had fantastic lease deals, no money down, $129/mo and $99/mo respectively.

Not sure what you mean by this. There's over 450,000 Leafs built. Also, there are a few places that can put a larger capacity battery into an older Leaf.

The 2020 Leaf S base model starts at $31600 MSRP. Nissan is offering $6000 cashback now. Take an additional $7500 tax credit, the final price would be around $18100 plus tax and title. That's about what I paid for my 2020 Prius Prime LE. But, I can't use the whole $7500 tax credit, so the price of Leaf for me is substantially higher than PP.

Is that regional? I'm not seeing any Leafs with $6,000 cash back in California.

    This is all I get.

Maybe it is. I don't know for sure. But even if I input 90001 zip for LA, I still see the $6000 Cash Back offer. For me, the lease would be a better deal since the entire $7500 tax credit amount is taken off from the price. But the problem is that there is no local Nissan dealer who has the base S model in stock. The lowest-priced Leaf I can find locally is S-Plus at $38000.

It's like they give you a totally different site. When I follow your link it looks like this with nowhere to enter z zip code or model year.
