Mitsubishi to sell electric car in the U.S. By KATHY JACKSON | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 10/09/06, 7:28 am et LAS VEGAS -- Mitsubishi Motors Corp. plans to sell a small electric car in the United States. President Osamu Masuko said the vehicle, powered by a lithium-ion battery, will be launched first in Japan. A hybrid version of the car also might be available, Masuko added. read more... I believe this will be the best platform for plug-in hybrid. Ken@Japan
The styling is just for a concept car. They'll start fleet testing with electric power companies in 2007. http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/pressre...detail1533.html (Sorry in Japanese) Ken@Japan
I wish they'd stop doing that. It's not really "zero emissions" unless you put an asterisk and indicate that you actually mean "zero emissions emitted from the vehicle itself. please contact your local power supplier to find out how much carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur, and/or other air-borne pollutants they generate in the create of the electricity required to power your vehicle." Now granted, I'd rather that all the power be generated in a centralized and controlled manner than coughing out the back of 100,000 vehicles of questionable maintenance. I just want people to understand that nothing is for free.
The specs suggest a 16 or 20 kWh battery, and 5 miles per kWh which is pretty good. Ken, I'm not sure I'm reading this correctly, could you translate the charge time for the 50 kW charger please? Many thanks!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TonyPSchaefer @ Oct 12 2006, 06:02 AM) </div> I wish EPA stops the current falsely reported X mpg in every car too. EPA needs to put in the "TRUE" mpg as to the cost of drilling/transporting/refining/etc of oil all the way to the electricity it cost to pump gas into your tank. But it is not going to happen, so "zero mission" is fair game.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(sl7vk @ Oct 12 2006, 09:39 AM) </div> But zero carbon sources have drawbacks, too...I'm not sure that constructing more dams, and submerging all of that land, is really an answer. Centralized power, in general, also has disadvantages. For example, the grid is already maxed out in many urban areas, and transmission losses are increasingly an issue as demand rises and excess capacity disappears. Bottom line, IMHO, is that only public transit and better urban planning will get us out of this predicament. The idea of us all running around in autonomous transpo modules may, in itself, be at the root of the problem.

We have an abundance of Wind in Utah and Wyoming (trust me on this!), and with a population density like ours, wind farms make all the sense in the world!

The closest I've gotten to sustainable power is a little guest cottage (shed would be more like it) with a small solar array that powers the interior lighting and whatnot. My fantasy is to live off the grid, in a more simple manner than I do now...but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Here in CA, there is limited wind power, but also growing concerns that the blades and migratory birds aren't getting along as well as hoped. Perhaps fewer of those issues in your area.

By "autonomous transpo modules" I assume you refer to that most marvelous of devices, the automobile? Possibly the singular most liberating invention in human history. Specifically because we are not reduced to a state of dependency upon public transportation.
