I've done our old 2010 in the Prius but it can be done outside if you use a fan to blow on the pack during the process. Good luck and keep us posted .
Thanks, I had another dumb question...the blower is on the 3rd gen pack. The harness doesn't power it, right? So I'd have to supply it with power? Was thinking of using a jump box and associated fused wiring to keep the blower going. Edit: wanted to use the blower assembly since it blew air under the modules which I think might be important. Was looking at a bench power supply like this one:, unless anyone else had a different suggestion.
There is a connection to the hv fan battery. It ensures the fan runs off of the prolong equipment . No need for other solutions if you charge in the car.
Thanks. Ray. I finally got a Prolong system to use. Maximum Charge and Discharge times for the Prolong system...am I missing something in their instructions on the website? I couldn't find anything on the directions. I will obviously monitor the output readings but won't always be there to monitor it. Was wondering if the Charger/balancer turns off on its own. Wish there was a YouTube tutorial on this.
They have them on there, but: 24 hours (no more than 48) for a charge or top end balance cycle Discharge times vary, but 6 hours +/- a couple is about right The charger does not turn off in its own If you have the Intelligent Discharger, that does turn off once it achieves the desired voltage and once it does, the pack voltage will then slightly rise as the discharge load has been removed Hope that helps.
Thanks Ray. Question...I charged the pack up to 239V. It hovered between 239-240V toward the 3rd hour in. I only charged it for 4 hours past the rise to 239V per the directions (I should have waited 23-24 hours?) I thought the directions said to stop about 4-6 hours after peak voltage was achieved. When I hooked up the discharger 4 hours after the charging process, the pack discharge start rate was 233V. Somehow I lost 6 volts between a period of 3-4 hours.
The guidance is if the charge level is stable for a minimum of 4 hours, the top end balance is completed. The discharge rate is slow, but the rate you describe is too slow. What does the screen on the discharger say for the discharge rate? Good luck and keep us posted.
The first charge hit 239/240V and stayed there for over 4 hours. I disconnected the charger and then plugged in the discharger (read 233V) for the first refresh at 134V. It took about 12 hours for it to empty at 134V. I did a second charge up to 238V, it would hover at 238/239V then stayed at 238V for approximately six hours. Again, plugged in the discharger and it read 233V. When I hit 84V discharge cycle, is where I got the readings below: The screen on the discharger said 1.545-549/1.550 DC amps. When it hit the 180 range, the rate then cut to .5 When it went down to 139, the rate went to zero. I started this process at 630AM, and just got to zero now at 1:15PM. Wondering if I did this wrong or if I am dealing with dead cells. I'm a bit alarmed. Might be breaking out the voltmeter/hobby charger instead.

Thanks, yes I saw your post earlier. What perturbed me is that during my 2nd discharge cycle is that the discharge amperage went to zero at 139V, it didn't even hit 134V as it did with ease during the first stage charge/discharge. The directions on Hybrid Automotive site is very confusing, because it varies from the Charger to Discharge instructions. On the Deluxe discharger instructions, it says that after no voltage increase occurs after 4-6 hours, then your pack is (should) be balanced and to move onto the first discharger point. There is no instructions to keep this duration for the 23-24 hour period... Also, is there any rest periods advised between the 3 charging/discharging periods (I know there is when using hobby chargers for individual cells)? All I saw is instructions for charging/discharging not to exceed 48 hours. Forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm just reading what I can and trying to assimilate what is the right course to get these modules beefy so I can swap them into my 2nd gen so I don't have to worry about blasting my AC anymore.
Maybe I read it wrong after confusing just the charging instructions with the discharging instructions. I have the Deluxe, so this should be it. Did I get this right? 1st Charge (24 but not to exceed 48 hours) INITIAL 2nd Charge (till hits stable voltage, then another 4-6 hours after) 3rd Charge (ditto above) 1st Discharge (134V) 2nd Discharge (101V) 3rd Discharge (84V) No rest in-between charge/discharge cycles. I screwed up the first time, because I only charged the INITIAL charge after the voltage stabilized at 239/240 with an additional 4 hours (the entire period was less than 12 hours max). That might be it ran of out of amps at 139V on my second discharge run?

The elapsed time is mostly all there in the data with the exception that I lost the first cycle’s data as my capture setup failed. I would like to say that I went seamlessly from charging to discharging etc, however, some of these events terminated while I was studying the back of my eyelids adding some time on to the total.
Ok I got it all sorted out, I was reading the chart wrong :facepalm: After comparing our numbers, I realize that I'm not charging/soaking the pack long enough like you are. I'm gonna go the full soak and see what happens to hit 84V.
