I’m new to the site and I’m loving all the helpful information. I just got my first Prius a 2012 model 4 and I’m trying to learn everything I can about it but I do have a question that just arose. If my 12V battery is bad or going bad can that have an effect on fuel economy?

welcome! some say yes, some say no. the hybrid battery charges the 12v. the engine gasoline charges the hybrid battery. so there is an indirect relationship. all the best with your new 2012. how many miles on her? read the egr threads
Personally, I recently changed my 12v for an OEM one, mine was 10 years old and I was getting worse fuel economy, but it ended up not even being the problem and it didn't change my MPG at all. So, I think they last a pretty long time honestly.
I'm at about the same latitude as Delaware, Ohio, and also replaced mine with another OEM last winter at the ten year mark.
