In my opinion, chemicals not recommended by the manufacturer are normally a waste of money. Yesterday I had the dealer do the 15K mile maintenance. One of the items listed that I paid for was 44K. I assume this was BG 44K. I think this is just the latest STP, i.e., yet another useless auto chemical with aggressive marketing. Does anyone know if Toyota requires or, even recommends this product. If not, I will be sure to tell the dealer, at the next interval, I will not pay for this junk. jrohland
Here's the manufacturer's blurb about BG 44K: BG 44K® Restores mileage.Boosts performance. Clean fuel systems create better fuel economy. BG 44K® thoroughly cleans fuels systems, restores performance and fuel economy. Ask your service representative to install BG 44K® in your gas tank today. See it at the pump. Feel it on the road.™ At least it's not supposed to go into the crankcase, like STP!

At least some Toyota shops do use this product for fuel system cleaning. In the other hand, I have been told that Prius' injectors rarely need cleaning, compared to other cars. I would not ask for this unless I suspected a fuel system problem - plus there are easier ways to clean the accelerator butterfly (which does get sooty).
