Has anybody found a horn that fits in the stock space and sounds like a real car horn? The stock one wouldn't scare anybody...
I cannot vouch for it, but I found this site mentioned in another thread here at PriusChat: http://www.eautoworks.com/html/search-1-Pr...s~Cars~Horn.htm
That's funny -- I just found that same page not 20 mins ago. I'm trying to find a sound sample, but for $45, I think I'll give it a try. thanks, dave.
Please let us know what works, I think the idiots on the road who don't see me laugh when I honk at them.
The stock Prius horn is best described as whimpy. Will be interested to hear from someone that has upgraded. Can you send a wav file to illustrate the sound?
I'd really like to hear a sound sample. At Pep Boys today, I saw some horns that were supposed to sound like big-rigs. Does anyone know if the amperage requirements are different with the various horns? What details, besides size, are an issue?
I'd like to have a locomotive horn for all the agressive drivers i see that insist on cutting across several lanes of traffic at the last possible moment to get to an exit ramp.
I think the 400 + 500 Hz -- I tend to associate "lower" with "bigger", and I really want them to think they just tried to cut off a Buick. I'll try to get "before" and "after" .wav's dave.
HaHa! I stuck my head under the hood at lunch, and I couldn't even find the horn. I love modern cars. I'll have to get my son to blow the horn while I look -- he'll love that.
OOPS! Should have been more specific, Here is how you find your horn: http://www.vfaq.net/mods/Horns.html
I have generated two wave files one that is a 400Hz and 500Hz tone the second is a 500Hz-600Hz tone. While it is not exactly what the horn will sound like it will give you an idea of what to expect.
Though this is a year-old thread, and there were a bunch of very helpful pieces of advice and links posted here, I didn't actually see a definitive answer to the original poster's question: "has anyone found a replacement car horn that fits in the stock space?" If anyone here has found and installed such an after-market product, I would appreciate if you could provide the specific model number. Second, is there anything wrong with simply replacing ONE of the stock car horns - namely, the one mounted near the trunk lid lever? Would this compromise the electrical system in any way, or create an objectionable combination of sound? It seems that replacing just the one horn would be a practical way to avoid dealing with the more troublesome horn located near the passenger headlight (if I interpreted this thread correctly).
Um... I was thinking of doing this BUT then i remembered what happened to my last car. My 02 Civic had a horn purchased in pepboys, one of those $20 highway blaster horns (not air horns), and after a few months they damaged the whole horn system. Fuses okay, cables not burned, horned replaced a few times... it worked once every few weeks and died again. I never figured out why it would do this. Anyway, my point is that there may be electrical risks involved. Just wanted to point out my bad experience replacing horns... But if you are out at pepboys and want to pick up something, the highway blaster HIGH tone is actually quite awesome for $20.
