On a lark, dropped by my local Tesla Store recently to check out a Model Y. Here's trade in value Tesla gave me for my PP. Red circle is my addition. My zip code is 89434. Don't worry, still gonna keep my PP. Not ready for full EV yet.

Not a surprising price for a 2017 PP. I got $16.5K for my 2017 Premium earlier this year, but mine had 40Kmiles on it.

Trade in value will always be lower than private sale value.

What did you get after your 2017 trade in? Another PP?

Try selling it thru Carvana. I've sold my 2018 Prime Plus with 48k miles for $20,600 last month.

Yap. 2020 Prius Prime LE. The reason for the trade was to get rid of the 11.6" screen and SofTex seats. In our region, it was basically no cost swap for me. But now I am really homebound, I didn't really need to trade. I could have just sold the car. lol

In my state you pay tax on the difference between the new vehicle price and the trade-in. So if i trade in my Prime for $20,500, I would have to sell if for about $22K to match that.

Same here. I had KBB instant offer for $18K, but the dealer I traded did not match it. Didn't know about Carvana then, but I really doubt it would have paid much more in our region. And a private sale is impossible on used PRIME.

In CA, they don't account the trade in price. You have to pay tax on new car price even if u trade in your car.

Understand. In your neck of the woods looks like Toyota is offering $4500 cash back on 2020 PPs.

One car registration thing I like about my state (NV) is there is no sales tax when you buy used from a private seller. There is sales tax however when you buy used from a dealer.

Yes, in NE region it was bumped up this month from the previous $3500, but NY region has been enjoying $4500 for several months now. I got mine in late Feb when it was $3500, but now there are not many in stock in my dealer. Besides, it really does not matter what rebate Toyota is giving. The bottom price has been $5k-$6K off MSRP before tax credit for the Prius PRIME for the last 3 years in our region. If the Toyota rebate increases, then the dealer discount decrease and vise-versa. I got $10K knocked off of MSRP for my 2017 (counting fed tax credit), and this time got $10.5K knocked off for my 2020 after fed tax credit.

I was curious on my Prime Advanced so back on Aug 20th I checked.

2017 Prime with ceramic tint, full all weather mats, 38,368 miles:

    Tesla $20,400
    Carvana $20, 562
    KBB $20,411
    Vroom $19,899

Didn't want to wait on a physical visit to Carmax. I'm within 5 miles of Carvana and they seem to be extremely easy to deal with and very fast pay unlike Vroom, etc.

It used to be based on the dealership's location, but sales were decimated at dealerships in counties with high sales taxes. Now it's based on where the car is registered. I live just outside Los Angeles County. The difference between my sales tax and Los Angeles County's was a $700 difference in the price of the Prime.

That makes me think people will now instead of living in the area and avoiding making big purchases there will simply move out of the area. California is just too over taxed. I had a job offer for a great company called Utelogy there and they where offering decent pay, had a great product but I couldn’t take the offer because I wouldn’t have been able to afford to live anywhere near the office let alone keep the dogs and be able to afford my Prius Prime and RAV4 Hybrid I have now.
