Already to start it .... think I'll wait till tomorrow so I have time to think about if I forgot to do something... I'm anxious but also a little scared that I didn't do something right.

    Both coolant reservoirs look low.

I disconnected a line at the egr cooler and filled the system there, that way I made sure to get the majority of the air out. So the reservoir was filled from the engine, and it is at least half full. The hybrid system was recently changed at the dealer, so I leave that to them as the wife takes it in every 10k miles for an oil change and check up.

Just fill both full. The engine reservoir will go down a bit since you did not vacuum fill the system.

Well I guess I did everything right, and no left over parts either, lol. Started it up and runs great, went for a 6 mile drive, runs great. Have a video, but it says it's too big of a file for me to upload. Its 21 seconds long.

Well it seems I missed hooking the washer hose back up to the hood when I put the hood back on. Now I cant find the hose, where does it come from the pump, from the fender or the cowl?

This is a looooong thread. Is your issue really fixed now? I live in Lexington, KY and have a 2014 that has very seldom given me hard knocks on a cold start. Maybe only about 6 mornings total in my four years of ownership (255k miles, I’ve put about 90k on it). What caught my attention was the one time the check engine light came on - p0300 p302 p0303 p304. Light hasn’t come on since. I’m just back in the forums reading all these things.

I still wonder what in the world was going on with my 2001 years ago with the knocking. Never figured that one out- but sent that off to another owner.

A proper head gasket and head repair without a warped block or bent rod will give you at least three years. Many diy hg jobs have failed two or three times in one year before a rebuilt engine was used. It will be interesting to hear from the op. He was given bad advice from this forum and a dealer before he bought into a proper repair.

Cleaning the EGR after head gasket has let go will not reseal it. Just being Captain Obvious.

Apparently the engine blew and he had a used engine installed. Car was later replaced.

ok, just a quick follow up on this whole ordeal I went thru. The egr system gets plugged up causing the engine to run hot, which causes the head gasket to fail, leaking coolant into 1 or 2 cylinders, and that is what causes the "cold start hard knock" problem. So the egr system needs to be cleaned before the cold start hard knock problem occurs, cause once you have that, the problem is now a blown head gasket. The cold start hard knock problem is caused from the antifreeze being in the cylinder(s) and them cylinders are not firing until the antifreeze is purged from the cylinder(s) after several revolutions of the engine. The reason it only happens during a cold start is because the head gasket leak is so small that it takes 6 hours or more to leak enough antifreeze into the cylinder to cause them not to fire when started again. This is my opinion, and I am sticking to it.

One tweak: the accumulated coolant is not compressible; piston comes up on compression stroke, all valves closed, coolant won’t compress, something has to give.
