so my family and I are planning on doing a few camping trips/road trips this summer. I know the V has pretty decent ground clearance as is compared to the regular Prius but they are some trails that I want to go on might button out the car. I’m not sure where to look or how to go about it. Are there any lift kits available that can raise the car up by a few inches? I saw a couple air bag kits on eBay but I have no idea how effective they are.

A lifted Prius...now that would be interesting!

I do not recall seeing any threads on PriusChat about doing a lift. If someone has attempted it, there probably would be a post about it on here.

You can find rubber lift kits like these for cheap:

I've driven a couple cars with these fitted due to your same concerns, but these are not legal in my country. do not know about legal issues in your country. You may check it before purchase.

Anyone ever taken their Prius off road or off the beaten trail? I’m not talking about 4 feet deep puddles or mud womping or anything major. More so off mountain trails, and camping? I’ve got a Prius V and the V’s ground clearance is 5.7 inches. I know most crossovers and SUVs are 6 inches or higher. So I’m wondering if I should invest money into different tires or maybe something like in the picture below since I don’t plan on going off the beaten path often. Maybe a couple times a summer.

I'm no expert on Prius 'offroading' (y) but we have been down to SE Utah a few times ( Moab area, etc.. ). There are a LOT of cool areas you can only get to by dirt road. I must say that I do feel a bit more confident in the Prius V (wagon) than I do in the liftback. However, I have only attempted dirt roads that are in fairly good condition. However, we did hit minor ruts in the road at one point that were a bit scary. With that being said, I'd much prefer a higher clearance vehicle in those conditions! Oh, and of course tires make a difference too..but not nearly as much as snow tires do in the winter.

I have taken it off road. Rocky areas. Just keep it slow and avoid anything that looks like you will cause damage.

We have a 13 V3 with 133k on it and plan to take it on a 4k mile trip. 2k each way & what ever between.

I just wish the seats were more comfortable lol.

If I were going to try to "Lift" your Prius v, I'd go about it in two different ways:

    1) I'd shim front & rear springs with about ~1/2" of extra spring pad material.

    2) I'd buy into a tire that's ~1/2" taller than stock, this will give you a 1/4" lift.

Combo of the two will give roughly 3/4" lift, not the end all be all, but it might be enough for your needs while not upsetting the car.

Even if there was a lift available. I would not take the prius offroad. The traction control system will get you stuck as you have no lsd or lockers. One wheel will spin on uneven dirt/gravel/sand/mud/wet grass when the other wheel that is planted on firm ground will not move. You should just take a 2019 Rav4 Hybrid on a long test drive or rent one if possible. I would not even take an awd/4wd offload unless I have a rear locker/lsd/torque vectoring , winch, tow straps, rope shackles and another awd/4wd in the event you are stuck. Make sure you are on a well known/busy trail. Getting stranded is no fun. Plenty of people have died not being prepared.

You can search on; Tema4x4 Prius. But even with these small lifts the Prius is way too low for real off road use.

Not as of yet. I've been pretty busy being strapped down by my work to be free to get what I want done, lol.

We lifted our 2013 Prius 2. We used the Tema Kit, it blew out our strut bearing on the passenger side, we could have damaged itwhile we installed the kit... Replaced it, no problem since.

We also install 205-70-15 Yokahama Goelander A/T tires.

Both mods about doulded our clearance, no issues on dirt roads, we probably push the limits of the prius but, I carry straps and a hand winch... Just in case.

Nice, I'm on the fence on this, but if there was a black Friday discount I'm sure it would push me over the edge (hint hint).

Anybody done the Matrix/Vibe spring swap and have comments on how it has changed the ride quality? (oops, sorry, I'm speaking about my Gen 3, posted in the wrong forum)

Unfortunately the matrix/vibe spring swap won’t work on the gen 3 platforms.
