Is it possible to activate the rear camera and have it display on the NAV display while the car is in Park? In other words, can the car be tricked by shorting pins or whatever to cause the backup cam to activate without actually being in Reverse? Google search and forum search produced zilch.
In a Tesla...yes. There is a button on the display you can press since everything is controlled by software. In a Prius, I don't think so. Software detects when in reverse and shows the camera view. It probably isn't even powered on other times. Mike
Thanks, Mike. I wasn't thinking there would be a button, but just hoping there was some hack, like "shorting pins 7 and 8 on the shift control triggers/powers the camera." Kind of a long shot, I guess.
On the 28 pin connector, pin 2 (pink wire) is for reverse gear signal (14 V). It activates the camera.
Excellent -- that's what I was hoping for. Where is the 28 pin connection point? If I made the tap on an adapter, I'm figuring I wouldn't have to touch the OEM harness wires.
I just happened to see this ad on FB and thought of you @Johnny Cakes You could use a Bluetooth license plate camera and your phone for about $30. Not just for 'park' but anytime.
