Thanks everyone here for all the insightful posts and threads. I successfully got rid of the dreaded knock by removing and cleaning of the EGR assembly and cooler (that took forever btw!!!). And big thanks to @NutzAboutBolts for the great tutorials. I’m sure many of us have got mucho work done with your help. I wanted to share a list of covid maintenance tasks accomplished due to your tutorials and the collective sharing and wisdom on the site. I’ve never worked on my cars before btw.

    Prius Covid Maintenance Tasks :
✓ Removal and attempted reconditioning of the HV Battery
    ✓ Cleaned HV battery Fan
✓ Replaced speed sensor, btw that was done with a 20$ aftermarket one that works great (clear DTCs after)
✓ Cleaned or replaced air filters / cabin & engine
✓ Cleaned EGR Assembly and cooler
✓ Cleaned intake manifold and throttle body
✓ Cleaned fuel injectors but ended up replacing them
    ✓ Replaced coolant
    ✓ PCV valve replacement
✓ Replaced gasket for the intake manifold and replace if need be (not sure that was necessary.)

✓ Use the Royal Purple cleaner
✓ Cleaned the engine and under the hood
✓ Got rid of all the error/warning lights
✓ After replacing the speed sensor you need to clear the DTCs
✓ Bled brake lines after draining and replacing brake fluid
    ✓ Replaced the vacuum valve
    ✓ Cleaned the map sensor
    ✓ Replaced maf sensor
✔️ Dealt with stripped fuel injectors rail bolt inlet on the actual block (found a cool cheap fix here)
    ✔️ Replaced 12v battery

Going to replace cvt fluid next and replace the hv battery with new pack coming up

Thanks all this site is awesome!!

I believe you should take the time and drive the car a little. Make sure all that you've done had no ill effects on the car. If you do all these items and a problem arises, it would be hard to pinpoint the last item you touched.

That’s very good advice, and I have been driving around for while. Ran dtc check and mechanically everything seems good. I’ve driven about 1k miles so far. But I agree and I actually thought that too, the thing is a lot of those jobs just make sense to do together. But I get your point about pinpointing the issue if problems arise. Probably these things have been done over the last 2 months of lock down. My battery will be here Saturday and I should be able to take some long trips and really see if I performed those tasks correctly. Good insight it’s appreciated

Indeed. Some of the items listed make no sense to me:

' Cleaned exhaust manifold and throttle body' -- surely you mean INTAKE manifold here. Exhaust manifold requires no cleaning.

'Replaced coolant for ac and engine' -- was not aware that ac has coolant. Did you mean refrigerant? Risky business if that's what you did. One needs special equipment (and knowledge) to do that without damaging the a/c system.

Yes you are right and that’s what meant. Intake, and the appropriate words probably weren’t chosen, that was a copy of a to do list for myself basically. I didn’t mean ac you are correct,, I’ll clean up the wording

I can appreciate the specificity and truth is I’m not a mechanic so if I misused a term then my apologies, the point was to say thanks not to spend my time explaining my list. Surely someone learning these tasks can be granted a little leeway in proper terms used.

Yeah, kind of ridiculous and sad and sadly ridiculous ... someone comes on here to say thanks and gets keel hauled for inexact wording ... by people who are probably at the top of most ignore lists.

I was poo pooed on by multiple people for not pulling the 12v lead before egr circuit cleaning, know how many video tutorials and threads that said to pull the lead prior to wrenching also said not required?

Yep, I lived in SF for about 5 years 2009-2014/15 . I miss it sometimes!!! But hopefully the fires won’t be so bad this season. 2 hurricanes are headed my way.

The CVT fluid is tricky because the car needs to be lifted and level. No problem if you have a lift but tricky with a floor jack and jack stands.

One way is tape a bubble level to your car door with painter’s tape. Then once it’s raised you can see if the car is still level.

I’ve done this change using a pump and using a funnel/tube from above. The funnel/tube method takes two people and you need a catch basin because once the case is full there’s still a lot of oil in the tube which will probable make a mess. So maybe the pump method is best.

Most important thing: Open the FILL plug before you open the DRAIN plug. If the FILL plug can’t come out, you definitely want to fix that before you drain the fluid.

damn! glad nothing serious happened to you. The air quality definitely suck and I'm glad I'm far away from the fire. Its like this every couple of years, damn fire keeps happening, either man made or from nature  California can't take a break :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: also, doesn't help that we're in a pandemic.
