Just wanted to say thanks to this forum and @NutzaboutBolts , fixed my engine knocking!!

Thanks everyone here for all the insightful posts and threads. I successfully got rid of the dreaded knock by removing and cleaning of the EGR assembly and cooler (that took forever btw!!!). And big thanks to @NutzAboutBolts for the great tutorials. I’m sure many of us have got mucho work done with your help. I wanted to share a list of covid maintenance tasks accomplished due to your tutorials and the collective sharing and wisdom on the site. I’ve never worked on my cars before btw.

Prius Covid Maintenance Tasks :
✓ Removal and attempted reconditioning of the HV Battery
✓ Cleaned HV battery Fan
✓ Replaced speed sensor, btw that was done with a 20$ aftermarket one that works great (clear DTCs after)
✓ Cleaned or replaced air filters / cabin & engine
✓ Cleaned EGR Assembly and cooler
✓ Cleaned intake manifold and throttle body
✓ Cleaned fuel injectors but ended up replacing them
✓ Replaced coolant
✓ PCV valve replacement
✓ Replaced gasket for the intake manifold and replace if need be (not sure that was necessary.)

✓ Use the Royal Purple cleaner
✓ Cleaned the engine and under the hood
✓ Got rid of all the error/warning lights
✓ After replacing the speed sensor you need to clear the DTCs
✓ Bled brake lines after draining and replacing brake fluid
✓ Replaced the vacuum valve
✓ Cleaned the map sensor
✓ Replaced maf sensor
✔️ Dealt with stripped fuel injectors rail bolt inlet on the actual block (found a cool cheap fix here)
✔️ Replaced 12v battery

Going to replace cvt fluid next and replace the hv battery with new pack coming up

That’s very good advice, and I have been driving around for while. Ran dtc check and mechanically everything seems good. I’ve driven about 1k miles so far. But I agree and I actually thought that too, the thing is a lot of those jobs just make sense to do together. But I get your point about pinpointing the issue if problems arise. Probably these things have been done over the last 2 months of lock down. My battery will be here Saturday and I should be able to take some long trips and really see if I performed those tasks correctly. Good insight it’s appreciated

 

Yes you are right and that’s what meant. Intake, and the appropriate words probably weren’t chosen, that was a copy of a to do list for myself basically. I didn’t mean ac you are correct,, I’ll clean up the wording

 

I can appreciate the specificity and truth is I’m not a mechanic so if I misused a term then my apologies, the point was to say thanks not to spend my time explaining my list. Surely someone learning these tasks can be granted a little leeway in proper terms used.

Whoa, damn that’s serious I’m in San Antonio so I’m pretty far inland haven’t seen much yet.

 

It wasn’t all smooth sailing but learning lots and seriously thanks,,, keep doing you man!! So helpful, btw the EGR assembly/cooler removal was hard as s@$t!!! But after I got that cooler cleaned and back on, no more knock. Thanks

 

Yep, I lived in SF for about 5 years 2009-2014/15 . I miss it sometimes!!! But hopefully the fires won’t be so bad this season. 2 hurricanes are headed my way.
