I replaced the valve stem seals when I replaced the head gasket. As Mendel said, the machine shop replaced the seals when they had my cylinder head.

I did not have any oil consumption before the head gasket replacement. It has been 25K since the head gasket replacement (currently at 210K) and I am still experiencing no consumption.

Hope the Prius is getting a good run every now and again given it now has competition:whistle:.

    Nothin' beats a Ram(y).

I didn't know about the piston ring issue---make sense. It drove me crazy and I have just recently found this forum.

Interesting. I've not heard of members with that experience. Hopefully they'll chime in with more info regarding mileage and age of the vehicle(s).

Hopefully, all the others who have had the head gasket replaced will inform us.
Also, since the 2015 has the new pistons and rings, those who have that model year will give updates
on oil consumption. Though it may be a few years before most of them have over 100,000 miles....

All is a large word and know that there is a whole business dedicated to fixing head gaskets that has cropped up:cool:.

@Gasket masters might be able to speak a bit to what they see out here in the Bay Area anyway(y).

So far 2015's are doing pretty good in this survey, limited sample though. Actually even the majority of 2010's report modest consumption:

"All" is a small word, just 3 letters.
Perhaps, those who have a 2015 model year Prius, maybe, could, possibly, inform Prius Chat is
the 2015 Prius they are driving, "IF" the model year 2015 Prius, with the updated pistons and rings,
of the oil consumption there 2015 Prius is consuming.
"IF" they are having to put in any oil between the 10,000 mile oil changes, or not.....

In that charge, only 11 votes have been cast... I'm pretty sure more than 11 2015 Prius' have been sold.
In just Florida, and the United States, and in Canada.... :)

Maybe they are just not having any problems(yet) so they are not in Prius Chat(yet)????
Maybe it will be a few more years for them...

Hey I can't twist arms. I'd suspect owners with excessive oil consumption would be more likely to see that survey, and/or vote. So that bodes well?

I just threw the rod on my 2010 also yesterday. Only had the car for a few months. This thread has been encouraging. I was considering just donating it and cutting my losses.

    That is one option.
You could get a used engine and put that in.
You could get a new/remanufactured engine block, install the original head on the good block.

It all depends on your mechanical skills, finances, time....
