How do you check what version your car has now? And what is the latest version number?

To check your software version on Prime with the large 11.6" screen press Menu->Settings->General->Software update->Update. Current version is displayed under the Current heading. Latest version is R10A8100 for 2017-2019 and R20A2300 for 2020.

I was at the dealer today for my first Toyota Care service, and I asked about this update. I even showed them the file from the link with instructions. They told me that this update is not for my 2020 Prime, only for earlier models and for Prius. I know that's not true but that was as far as I could get. Hopefully the link will get updated so I don't have to pay for access to the download or go back to the dealer.
And they didn't even wash my car!

Had gotten an over the air notification to update software the other day. When I checked the website the software version was newer than what the car updated to. So maybe in time the car will update on its own?

Not exactly sure if this is the same update people on this thread are talking about, but I also had over the air Entune update notification today. I don't usually get this because I don't have data service on my phone that is paired with the car for use of Entune. But today, I was sitting in the car on my driveway with my phone still connected via home WiFi. I did finish installing the update, but not sure what the update was about. Honestly, I don't really care much. I don't use Entune, and I am not having any problem with the essential functions such as BlueTooth and USB connection.

Not absolutely sure about the 2020, but on the 2017-2019 models the Entune update that comes over the air from the Entune app on your smartphone is completely separate from the headunit software update that we are discussing in this thread.
Can you confirm what headunit version you're seeing on your 2020? It sounds like the OTA update still doesn't update the headunit software itself.

To make things even more confusing, the map data is also a separate version from the headunit software, and separate from the entune over the air update, and can only be updated by buying an expensive SD card.

That's what I thought. For my 2017 PRIME, I never installed Entune on my phone, so I never had to update it. For my new 2020 PRIME LE, Entune is an integral part of some apps I wanted to try, namely Scout GPS and Toyota Alexa. So, I did install the Entune 3.0 app on my Phone and activated Entue on the head unit. That is probably the reason I saw the Entue over the air update for the first time. As for the headunit software version, I will check it.

I just performed this update from R10A5530 to R10A8100 on my Canadian 2018 Prius Prime Upgrade (with Technology).

Canadian models are named differently compared to the US models and have slightly different specs (i.e. no Entunes). As of today, Toyota Canada's site for firmware still shows the older version. I downloaded from the US site which says the firmware is for the 11.6" system with JBL and with Entunes. I can confirm that this version worked in my Canadian Prius Prime.

The update took about 30 minutes (as others have already said).

I have a 2020 Prius Prime XLE with the 11.6" infotainment screen.

I have had intermittent reboots of the infotainment system since we bought the car in August, 2019.
Using the information from this thread I got the dealer to apply R20A2300 last week. They asked me lots of questions about whether the reboots occurred with Apple or Android devices, what the software release they ran and whether the phones were USB connected or not. I pointed out that there was no apparent correlation between Apple/Android physically connected or not.

However, I had the same reboot behavior today after having the fix applied.

Glad to hear your dealer was able to locate the latest update for the 2020! That may help other 2020 Prime owners to convince their dealers that the update exists.
I also experienced a reboot yesterday on my 2018 Prime Advanced running version R10A8100. I had an Google Pixel 2 android phone connected via bluetooth at the time. No USB devices were connected.

    A few things I’ve learned...

I updated my 2017 Prius Prime. The USB drive has to be in FAT32 format. The vehicle cannot be charging or it’ll shut off after a few minutes. (Really Toyota? Why can’t I have the AC going while I wait and charge up?!?)

Entune is hot garbage and like everyone else, I’d love to have Apple CarPlay. Instead, I got Alexa. I hate Alexa. Dear Toyota, literally nobody wants Alexa in their car. They want Android Auto or CarPlay because 99% of owners have those devices.

This is unreal.. the fact that Toyota (read: amazon) spent money to bring Alexa to 2017 models and not CarPlay speaks volumes. It makes financial sense to listen in on everyone's conversations everywhere, not give them what they want: a useful display unit.

in other news, the link to the update looks to be broken still..
just found out today and tried -- still don't know what (if any) significant changes are made in the update.

I posted this in another thread that I fixed my reboots by uninstalling all updates.

I mentioned the frequent screen reboots today to the service guy at the dealer when I was getting the oil changed, and he said that there is an update available. This turned out to be the same update as earlier models had available, so it seems that the 2020 Limited can finally be updated. I don't know if the link posted above will work, but at least a dealer will do it.
I don't actually expect that this will fix the reboots, however.
