New here. 140k on my Gen 4 (2016). Looking to clean my throttle body, clean the EGR tube, replace plugs and pvc valve in the next couple weeks, but I can not find any information on the location of the PVC Valve. Any ideas on location and/or best access ? My mpg has decreased from 55+ and now stays between 48-50. Any information will be helpful. Thanks.
Welcome to Prius chat. The PCV valve is buried behind the intake manifold: And the egr cooler will be a bear to remove, requiring the inverter to be moved: I put an oil catch can on too, similar to what the Gen3 folks do: I had to add my own bolt in the top as it didn't come with that. The throttle body and intake looked good at 21k miles on our Prime: Hope that helps.
Is it ever too early to hedge . As an aside, guess what the oil catch can is already catching. So I'll say it isn't too early as the spooge is already there. And the cooler will be its own effort as the inverter will have to move.

Once we get out of pandemic land, absolutely. I found a teaspoon amount after 4K miles on the odometer, which is really about 1.5k miles of engine use . So since there was a pool in the intake manifold, I think it's prudent . Hope that helps .
yes helps, i think i am going to do something about it, i will order an egr cooler from ebay, seems like i cant ignore that issue, wonder if other already did the OCC and cleaned all that egr path
On the Gen 4 if the EGR gas comes from behind the cat it's supposed to solve these problems and you aren't supposed to have to do any of this stuff....
That Potentially solves the egr cooler Clogging but not the PCV valve blow by . The oil catch can cured that to a certain degree.
Just the pressure washer is needed. Save your $$$ for the cooler for something else. But the oil catch can is a good idea.
If you're quite convinced it needs replacement, here's a thread where if you follow down the page you'll get a good sense of pros and cons of different ways you might try. (It's a Gen 3 thread, but the engine at least is largely the same.) Every Prius ever made makes a small pool of gloop in the intake manifold though. If you remove that, it will only feel intensely self-conscious in the company of other Prii.
Gen 3 PCV valve can be reached from below, if you're not needing to remove intake manifold. 4th Gen is essentially the same engine, though the periferals are different, so may still be doable thus. @NutzAboutBolts has a (3rd Gen) video showing access from below. That said, removal and cleaning the intake manifold may be warranted anyway.
