Hi All, I have 2013 Prius 4, second owner. Bought the car in February of this year and currently have 62,000 miles (bought it with 61k). When I fill up a full tank, the driving range always shows 410-430. Upon calculations, this equates to around low 40s MPG. Most if my driving revolves around a 10 mile radius from my house (market, work, post office, etc). I use regular fuel from Sams Club. All stock, no mods. A/C on 80% of time. Is this normal? I know it was suppose to hit 50mpg new...so low 40s with 62k...not sure if it’s normal? Thanks!
so many factors affect mpg's. 50 is only a baseline on the epa test. you can do better, or worse, depending on driving style, commute, elevation changes, climate, hvac use, tire type and pressure, the list goes on and on. you're best bet is to calculate actual usage when you fill up. actual average mpg's on fuelly are low 40's, iirc.
Short drives equals low mpg. The hybrid system doesn't do much for you until the gas engine warms up which takes a few of your 10 miles. Low 40's is good under that condition.
AND.....you can NOT use the "estimated driving range" to calculate your fuel mileage. The MPG numbers that are displayed should be more accurate than that......but maybe not much. The only way to get a reasonably accurate number is to divide miles driven by gallons consumed.......over several fillups.
There's some videos around showing you how to max your mpg for a Prius. I imagine the problem is just your foot. My 2015 Prius gen 3 with 65k miles gets me usually around 48 to 52 mpg. With trying, you can get higher than that.

Please copy, paste & answer these questions, esp. if you're new | PriusChat The short trips, with A/C, don't help, though are not nearly as bad as another recent poster who typically drives 2 to 4 miles per day, round trip. But he noted quite normal mpgs for his infrequent much longer trips, meaning that the daily short trips were the primary issue. The above questionnaire doesn't cover older car issues very well, but those can be explored at after first considering the included items.
My mother has a 2014 with 110,000 on it, 45 is average for hers. <42 would be in the summer here with mostly short trips. In my humble opinion yours should get better even with the ac blasting!!
I I guess the question is how short of trips are we talking lol Even city driving requires some highway averaged in there, @royrose is right, I’m not trying to be contrarian here, but I just feel like even with short trips a Prius with 62k should be mid 40’s assuming the trips give the engine time to warm up as @royrose mentioned.
