$600 later, I have CarPlay and a temp gauge. Other stuff too but thats the main parts for me. Couldn’t be happier. Lots to wire but doable.

I gotta say, this is the best money I have spent in a long time!! I really can say that this car is perfect now. Well except for these short little sun visors..... That’s coming up next!

    Congrats!

Now, if there were just an option like this for the 11.6" display units....

I’d like to think with an adapter kit you could fit a standard double din in there?

In the 11.6" display area? Probably, but boy, not sure I'd like that look. There'd be more "adapter" than display. lol

Yeah, it's amazing the difference but TBH you lost me with the sub and amp installation locations as those take away too much utility and space in the prius IMO.

I went with an 8 inch powered (800w peak, 200w continuous) rockville spare tire sub that, for the money @ only $170, is simply amazing! I also mounted a 4x75 amp underneath the drivers seat for the rest of the system. It has fan inside it so locations like that are suitable plus it's easy to make adjustments to it when tuning. I really, really like that nothing is visible for the bad guys to see.

I've been eyeing something like that for our c. Originally I planned no sub at all because I didn't even want to give up underseat space, but I could see going for one of these spare tire coaxials. From what I can see I'd just have to excavate a bit of the foam deck levelers to open up enough volume for the thing. Did it put you to any rattle hunting? Any gotchas for when you actually need to use the spare or store a dead tire?

@DevilDogDoc congrats on the setup. I put a carplay/android deck in ours right when we got the car and haven't looked back. And the best thing is, whenever carplay etc. goes out of style, it'll be an even quicker and cheaper swap to get whatever is current then!

I had previously applied sound mat thru most of the interior but I also stuffed home sound insulation (lowes) under and around the spare just in case. Not a buzz or rattle that I can hear. It has one quick disconnect for the wiring but I also made sure to keep enough length on the cables to just pick up and set aside for tire removal. The included wiring kit is so substantial that it came in another box.

I've had two underseat subs over the years (cmax and prius) and this one makes those sound very weak. Assuming it lasts, this is the best bang 4 buck I've spent in audio.

I have this installed in another car so use the measurements on their site to see if it will fit inside your specific spare tire.

    They're already ahead of you.

The new fad in aftermarket decks is DIN (or double-DIN) mountings combined with an oversize touchscreen on a floating armature:

I don't know of any using a tall aspect ratio, but it could be possible.

From what I've seen these are pretty adjustable to accommodate air vents and other nearby controls.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time for the the tall aspect ratio of something like that. But honestly of all the options currently available (that I've been made aware of, at least), the most appealing to me is actually swapping the old 11.6" out for the new one in the 2020s. If that's even possible. And despite the cost of a bajillion dollars. :/

DevilDog, do you intend to install the 2020/newer OEM sun visors from Toyota (something like $90/each, ugh), or do some third party mod? I'm looking to make this simple change as well.

I was thinking about it but then realized they only add about 4 inches to it. Not worth the asking price. I ended up getting one of these instead.

Well the box comes out easily if I need the space. It’s worth it to me for 800W continuous 1200 peak. Plus the lil fabric cover in the back covers it nicely too.

Hey I was thinking of getting the under the seat 8 inch Rockville Ss8p. I read your comment about the Rockville Rockghost. I have 2007 Prius and wonder if Rockghost hits 2nd trunk tray but who cares.

More importantly, do you think the Rockghost is better than the under the seat Rockville Ss8p?

I ask because it sounds like you have under the seat subwoofer experience

Yes, I also have a soundordinance 8 inch(Low profile) sub under the front pass. Seat. Yeah, it’s really no comparison how much better the ghost is (better sounding, WAY more sound pressure (thump), build quality (install kit is nice), controller has more adjustments, etc.,) even in the back,, underneath the floor inside the spare tire well. Then when I consider both of these subs were almost the same price, it’s a no brainer to recommend the ghost if one has the room.

Fotomoto, I am assuming you have the Rockghost installed in your 2018 Prius 2. Does your Prius have a second trunk underneath? If so does the Rock Ghost fit with the second trunk?

I drive a 2nd gen Prius and wonder if it will fit with the second trunk thingy on top of spare tire.

Hey I just noticed you used to own a 2006 Prius. You know what I’m talking about. I wonder if the Rockghost is going to hit the top of the second trunk.

Another question is I read you sound deaden your vehicle. Is it worth it? Does it keep out a lot of vibrations?
