    This TSB has the instructions for reading HV battery module date codes:
    Prius_HV_Batt_SerialNoExample.png
    Some additional information from senior members here:
    To read the date code on the case of the battery (no guarantee that the modules have not been swapped!):

    Great description and pictures of a new battery pack from Toyota from @3prongpaul :
    Is there a way to determine if HV battery is the original?

    Thanks to all the senior members here at PC!:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

    EDIT: Special thanks to @dolj :notworthy: for catching error on the graphic (now corrected)

    The battery module in the image actually was made 19 Sep 2015; The 4th character is a "Q" not an "O".

    If it follows the same numbering as Prius modules, then it would be 11 Sep 2016. But I have no idea if it does, but can't think why it wouldn't. Toyota doesn't usually reinvent the wheel, and I imagine the same modules would be used across the whole hybrid range, rather than have special number sequences per model.

    Hello,

    i have a question!
    newer Cells, say 2018, are not listed in the Table above.
    I am right, 2018 is Letter "T"
    I have Cells with Serial "058TAA00852Y"
    So they made 05 May 2018?

    THANK YOU!

    Hello,

    OK .... i hope this is true!

    "After 2015 the letters go sequentially. i.e. R=2016, S=2017, T=2018, U=2019 etc."

    Yes, it is.
    Almost! It is actually 05 Aug 2018 viz a vie:

    05 = Day - 05
    8 = Month - August
    T = Year - 2018

    It looks like it uses the newer decode so this battery has a manufacture date of 31 Oct 2017.

    So what do I have?
    H147NAJ0016A

    I assume the date is July 14, 2010, but what do the "H" & "J" mean?
    It says Panasonic on the label with the code, so why is there a "J" where the "B" should be?

    Yes, that is correct assuming you're talking about the date code sticker on the outside of the battery.
    The first character H is supposed to indicate the model of vehicle for which the battery is made, which for a Prius is supposed to be F. But in reality, I have never seen F on a battery S/N only H.

    The position which has J is supposed to signify the manufacturer of the ECU. I have no idea what manufacturer J indicates.

    Thanks. I saw the H, but just visually knew that it was a pack for a gen 2 Prius.

    You may note the picture in post #1 is the end cap of a Gen 1 Prius HV battery. The Gen 1 Prius batteries have an F. Every single one I've ever had my hands on, has been an F. On the other hand, every Gen 2 has an H. Just a little glitch in the decoder, most likely due to the decoder photo being current around the same time a Gen 1 was current.

    There is mention of newer and older battery pack serial number decoding and I'm a little confused. Can anyone help with this serial number on my 2006 Prius battery?
