With the car sitting around so much, I had a visitor. Dang squirrel thrashed the underhood insulation a bit. Not too bad before I asked him to leave ... Any ideas to fix what's there? Perhaps some heat spray paint to stick to the rest of the insulation together?
Just be glad that's all the critter chewed on. This is what a rat did to our Prius windshield washer fluid reservoir cap and funnel. As far as your hood liner/insulation, maybe a heavy felt sheet attached with some spray on adhesive? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
There's been numerous posts on this forum that Toyota's use of plant based plastics seem to appeal to rodents, especially the insulation around wiring. Thousands of dollars in damage occurs when wiring harnesses are gnawed on and wires chewed through. Here's a pic I took of my headlight wires that have had some nibbles on the insulation. Fortunately, it seems that the critter stopped chewing on it when it got to the less tasty copper wires it exposed. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Yep, then some brilliant person thought it would be a good idea to bring over the mongoose (ferret like animal) to eat the rats. But the rats and mice are most active at night and the mongoose are most active during the day. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
It's mostly annoying. Not that big a deal. But yes, luckily that's all that was attacked. The squirrel was making a nest under the hood of my wife's RAV4, it was only 3 days and it was amazing how much nest was there and what it used. Shredded cedar bark from the neighbors tree, and blended with prius hood insulation. Actually pretty cozy nest.
