Looking to do a long over do overhaul on my 06 prius with 215K km (I'm pretty sure its still on the originals...) and just would like to do a sanity check before i go ordering parts. I've done research here on the forums and it seems like KYB are the go to OEM without coming from Toyota. I have called my local dealer and they were wanting $487 for the struct/ shocks alone not including any additional parts. For the front i'm thinking of just getting the whole assembly so i dont have to worry about switching over springs. KYB SR4224 KYB SR4223 For the rear i can't find the part number for the springs or a whole assembly (from KYB and read the Monroe are "crap") so was thinking of paying someone to use the current springs and put them on the new shocks (for $40/each i'd rather not take the risk. 2x KYB 341322 2x KYB SM5382 2x KYB SB132 Anyone have a opinion on if that is good enough or if i should be looking to replace more on the rear?
I couldn't find a whole assembly with the KYB's. Only cheap stuff and you don't want to go that route. The shocks are shit. I ended doing my fronts again and paying someone to compress and swap them out. KYB everything, the rubbers and top shock isolators. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
From what i can tell the KYB SR4224 and KYB SR4223 are whole kyb assemblies. Are you saying kyb shocks are shit and should be going with someone else?
For those that are following. Did the suspension yesterday and really should have added coil springs to my original shopping list. Although during my visual inspection i didn't see any cracks in the springs upon removal both rear side springs were snapped right at the top. Never fun scrambling to find parts in the middle of the job when its our only vehicle. In the end was able to find someone who could get me the parts the same day (most places were 24 hours +) and the job was completed successfully. Car rides much better now and sure it will only improve as the springs settle.
Any update? Thinking of doing the KYB SR4224/KYB SR4223 in the front and the MONROE 172394L/R complete sets. Haven't found KYB complete for the rear.
What sort of update? In my last post i stated the job was done but needed new springs for the rears. That being said they seem nice. Only reason i went with all KYB even though it was just rear shocks was because of the promotion KYB had where they were give $ back on purchases. Really if that wasn't a thing i might have just got Monroe rear sets as well.
DO NOT USE the Monroe complete sets for the rear. I did just that and they only lasted 30k miles. The lower strut mount bushing is shot on both rears and they are squeaky now
Hi Philipc, I am looking for replacing the font struts in my Prius as well. How is the condition of the struts performing now after 1 year? This will give us an idea how durable the KYB struts are.
So the rubber boot on the struts have fallen apart and i put KYB i put on the back and its starting to act poorly again, i'm going to contact them here soon as they are suppose to have lifetime warranties. The front seem to still be fine though
I dont even drive that much, i'm maybe 10,000 KM and they are starting to degrade, its a shame really as looks like the warranty process requires sending them in to be evaluated only then will they replace then with new so for weeks your car would be without suspension...
That's ridiculous. In the name of lifetime warranty they create lot of hassle to people. So much hassle and they know it very well that majority of folks will go away from claim. Thats what they do business. You have the rear end problem. Was it SR4514 and SR4513 at rear?
The parts on the rear were KYB 341322 had to get the springs separate as i could not find a whole assembly.
