I thought gosh I could save money and buy my tires online then have the local tire shop install them and save money. So I got on amazon and found the same size tire for my 2014 Prius C and thought c'mon its just a tire and if the tread depth is the same, width, height etc etc. that I wouldn't have any problem and that my car would smile and thank me. Instead, my car's battery hasn't been charging above 2 bars and I've got new tires but my mileage city went from 50 to 37 and it was ever since I put new tires on my car. After having over 1,200 miles put on the car and a few gas tanks I'm concerned. I know that every 10K miles my tires need to be rotated according to the computer on my dash as it alerts me. As soon as I saw that notification instead of rotating my tires I replaced them. That notification is still on. Do I need to find on youtube how to reset it ? I didn't know the difference in LRR tires compared to HRR tires I didnt know that was a big deal and went with whatever amazon recommended. Please help. Thank you
Unless they are a different size, installing regular tires instead of LRR ones should not have such a dramatic impact on mpg. I bought cheap Nankang tires from Amazon in the original size and I still get 50mpg. I’m more concerned about your battery not charging above two bars. That is the real problem. It might just be a coincidence with the tires.
This. Just because the drop in mileage LOOKS like it is obviously connected to the new tires does NOT mean that is really true. I think the most change that has been reported with non-LRR tires is around 5 MPG. Having "soft" tires and not inflating enough might add a couple more to the loss.
