Toyota's vehicle sales soared 25 percent last month compared to September '05. The overall increase was due in part to sales of the Prius, which alone rose 28 percent. Prius demand got a push from the pending Fed Tax Credit reduction. Sales at Honda, Nissan and Chrysler were all down. Otherwise struggling Ford was up a surprising 5%.
We should be sure to track this one and look at the numbers exactly one and two months from now. After the tax credit reduces and/or runs out there will be a sharp decline in sales. Which reminds me that some schmuck on the TV news was telling viewers to be weary about buying a hybrid because the tax credit is over.
