• Remove the left side of the dashboard • Locate the black, cylindrical beeper at the very left side • cut its wire (• insert an on/off switch) Sorry, but as far as I know, there's no other solution. If you cut off the beeper, then other warnings will disappear, too. (E.g. seat belt, low voltage, low fuel, whatever)
There is a software method. Dr Prius for one (Phone App, works with a bluetooth dongle on obd port) will do it, IIRC). Various other phone apps too, and of course Techstream. Personally, I can't get too excited about it, don't want to disable it. I kinda wish instead of a beep, it was a little voice that kept saying "you're in reverse, you're in reverse, you're...". The beep doesn't work for me.
This is my third battery and twice I disabled it, but don’t remember the steps, it was a software change. I don’t understand your software suggestions. Can you please say a little more?
I know!! I hated ours so much I asked the service department at the dealership to turn it off when I brought her in for her first service. The service dude tried to tell me it can't be done but I told him other dealerships said they can do it so he talked to the head service guy and had someone turn it off for me. (I doubt they would've cut any wires at the dealership....must be a setting somewhere in the computer.)
I found this....good to know in case my battery is disconnected for maintenance and the annoying beep comes back on...I'm tempted to try it.... How to Disable the Reverse Beep in a Toyota Prius | It Still Runs
Gen 2 does not use an App, Gen 3 and Gen 4 do. Gen 2 has a chicken dance that owners do with the controls.
As far as I am aware, you can use Techstream and other apps (like Carista) to do those various customizations. But if you know the other method, I can be easier/quicker and the bonus of no special equipment required.
When you plug in using those apps it says that the function of the (removing beep etc.) isn't available on that model year. I know, I paid the money for them, and they don't work for that as I thought they would. There is a chicken dance. It's not bad to do. Disabling the Reverse beep Turn your car either on or to ON mode (IG-ON is pressing the power button twice while your foot isn't on the brake) Next cycle through the ODO button (if your car is already displaying ODO you just have to hit it 3 times TripA,TripB,ODO) Turn off the car Now while applying pressure to the brake hit the power button (aka start your car) Within 6 seconds after starting push and hold ODO button for 15 seconds After 15 seconds have passed while still holding the ODO button shift from P to R, then back to P. Let go of ODO button On trip display, you'll see either b-on or b-off we want b-off. Press the ODO button until you see the display reading b-off Power off the car Note** If you disconnect your 12v battery anytime after doing this procedure the car may reset itself and turn the reverse beep back on. Simply go through the steps again. Disable the Seatbelt Beep The procedure to disable the seatbelt beep is the same as the reverse beep except for one step. When you get to the step where you would start the shifting process substitute that with the buckling/unbuckling of the appropriate seat. Also, you must have someone or yourself seated in the passenger seat while disabling the passenger seat. Following these simple steps should result in successfully disabling those annoying beeps that your Prius has.
