I programed my used key today and just wanted to put the information out there since It took me most the day sorting out all the old/bad techstream info for regestering a used prius key. YES it is possible to register a used key purchased off ebay or other. You will need techstream and a seed passcode. I paid $25 for 5 keys(each key works forever on one car. I used LEXUS, SCION, TOYOTA PASSCODE CALCULATOR / GENERATOR: Calculate Pass-code by Seed number | Immobilizer Pincode Calculator (official website) and it generated a key instantly). I have 3 more if anyone wants to buy one for $5 each. Once you get techstream with a cable and you have a Seed code you will need to reset the immobilizer codes. This puts the car into auto register mode and I just inserted one key into the slot and pushed power, then turned off and put the next key into the slot and hit power. This registered my old key and the new used key I found automatically. Then you can go into smart key register and register the keys so the sks functions work as well as the wireless door locks/unlocks. There is a few other ways to do this but it seems the most important thing with the used keys is just resetting the immobilizer keys. Im sure this will confuse alot of people but ill try and help anyone who is trying this.
does anyone know if a used key fob for a Prius 2010 model would need to be flashed or unlocked but one can use techstream to program it to a different Prius?
Did you have to have Techstream hooked up to the Internet to do this or did the pass code that you purchased unlocks it regardless? I'm about to do this to my wife's car. I would be willing to buy one of your codes if you still have any as well.
So I don't need to get a brand new key unused from Toyota Dealer instead I can use a keyfob silver logo from eBay?
