Long-time Prius owner (since '02) but just moved up from a 2013 Prius 2 to a 2020 Blue Magnetism Prime XLE with 9K on the odometer. It’s Toyota Certified and appears (and smells) brand new. But I just spotted this odd little button, clearly after-market. Anyone recognize it?

    It's an aftermarket car alarm.

Doesnt look like any car alarm component to me. May be a communications device.

It must be a mod to override the computer and let it keep running in EV to drain the last part of the battery (y)

Ok, maybe not. Illegal button to turn on the brake lights??

Have you tried pushing it to see what happens? Most of the time, aftermarket mod components get removed before sold, so it may not be connected to anything anymore.

I’m still learning about the standard bells and whistles, so haven’t messed with this thing yet. I’m revisiting the dealer soon and will ask, but I suspect they’ll be clueless.

Maybe try tracing the line, it could be a subwoofer controller to turn on/off the subwoofer.

Didn't get far with tracing just now... the cable disappears into the lower dash as shown. It does seem rather strange that the original owner (tracked her down through a receipt the dealer missed that was inside the vehicle) didn't know what it was, or who installed it for sure. When I contacted the original selling dealer, they checked the VIN and said they hadn't added any after-market devices.

It’s definitely part of an aftermarket alarm system; see my previous posting.

I ran into a thread from 2018 saying it is part of a KARR alarm system from the dealer.
