For the OP, here's an interesting test I did. I think CHG/EV alternation could result in notably better fuel economy in many scenarios.

  2. Why do we need to have three threads on charge mode going at the same time?

It is not uncommon to find multiple threads on a subject that died out. Then someone 'new' comes in and wants to share their recent efforts. Usually, they pick one thread and resurrect it. In this case, one user has resurrected multiple threads that had discussed CHARGE mode and then made a link to his experiments. Not an optimum practice because it raises the question of:

Without linking them together, people may only read one thread and be misinformed. At least I'm not duplicating posts. If there was a way to add a link to a thread without resurrecting it, that'd be nice, since the related posts section doesn't work that well.

Let me suggest a more effective technique used in written papers:
    1. Start a clean thread with your paper and analysis.
      1. The short title should reference original discovery.
      2. Topic paragraph, a type of abstract, summarizing the body.
      3. Body of research, methods and conclusions
      4. Summary paragraph, like the first but more refined.
    2. Add relevant 'footnotes' when an earlier post has something that relates to your work and a link to it. If you'll use "@<username>", the author will get a notice to follow-up if needed.
I'm interested in effective communications that bring new insights. Unfortunately tagging the end of 'dead threads' brings a lot of baggage and no context. It suggests you asking us to read every post in the previous threads and somehow make connections with your work.

to me the big advantage of CHG mode is to increase overall range. Right before stopping to fill the gas tank run the CHG mode, then with the added EV miles you have almost maximum range. Almost full battery and full tank. Good for long trips.

It takes energy to make energy, there is no free ride. Unless you are going downhill, I don't think it's worth using.

    You'd be wrong.

    Confirmed

Turns out this is not necessary. The engine has the power needed, even on long steep hills at high altitude.

    Confirmed

Confirmed through years of use, including yesterday.
