Just curious how many folk are picking up their Prius today just squeaking in under the wire for the full Tax Credit.

Anyone who was promised it would be here but it it didn't make it? Bet there are some exciting stories out there!

If I were a cynic, I would suspect that some more opportunistic Toyota dealers might hold on to or hide some allotted Priuses or Prii till the last week of September. At that time it's probably much easier to find buyers willing to pay around $1000 more in order to save an additional $1575 with the full tax credit.

Oh wait; I am a cynic.

My wife and I walked in to the dealer Sept 29 about 4 pm to look at the Matrix and Yaris for a commuting car and another customer was looking at buying the second to last Prius on the lot. He told me about the tax credit. Since my wife drives about 2000 miles per month for work I did the math and decided that with the tax credit (equivalent to $50 per month over 5 years) and the fuel cost savings (I think we will save about 110 gal per month or $275 per month) it would be worth trading in my 2004 Nissan Armada (14 mpg).

We drove our (or should I say my wife's car and my payment?) new 2007 Prius out of the dealer at about 8 pm after paying full MSRP. I have read tonight that paying MSRP is a pretty good deal but I think they ripped me on the trade in. Oh well, like somebody else wrote, if the wife's happy then I'm happy.

Friday September 29th 9AM....I went in and finalized the paperwork and the trade in for my my 2002 Cougar XR. I've talked to 2 CPA's, the IRS (twice.), and the dealer. All assure me that as long as the purchase is completed before the October 1st that the vehicle has officially been "placed into service."

Mine was originally a 2006 Seaside Pearl Package 7 model. While I was at the dealership I went over the features with a fine toothed comb but didn't realize one small detail until I got home from work that evening. They upgraded me to a 2007 FE Package....score. Now I'm just waiting. They are est Oct 4 - Oct 11 for the delivery date.
Best of all with my trade in and cash down I've paid off half the car driving out of the lot. :D

PS- I do Dell warranty work around the Minneapolis Twin Cities area in Minnesota. I put on about 100 miles a day. People claim that because of the Prius's price it will take a while to recoup it in gas savings. Not for me it won't. That and I won't feel like such an idiot for putting crap into the air. I've always felt like a complete jerk every time I have to drive 20 miles to replace an optical drive in some guys Dell Dimension. :(

Ordered from a few dealers in Bay Area. Only one dealer came through with the exact car we wanted (Silver '07 HG) and we bought it on September 30th (I like to live on the edge ;))

Now i'm gonna feel bad... had Dell laptops for the past 7 years, but now that the warrenty is up on my current one, i'm afraid i won't be going back to dell... and it would have been nice to have a tech come by in a Prius!

The dealer gave me 3-7 weeks. The seven week mark was sept. 29th. Sure enough it arrived on the 29th. I had scheduled to have a wsidom tooth cut out that day, so had the procedure (under full anestesia) done that morning woke up around 1:00 and went and bought the prius. As if buying any car isnt painful enough, add a pounding headache that anestisa give you. Talk about going out of your way for the tax credit!! But at least the tooth fairy gave me a really cool gift!!

I picked up my magnetic gray '07 on 9/26. I had been waiting for an '06 for several months and was surprised and delighted when I got the call that an '07 in the color and package (HG) I wanted had just reached port and was reserved for me! Needless to say, those were some anxious days waiting for it to reach the dealer but I've been loving every second since! Taking delivery before the end of the quarter was the icing on the cake. I was shocked at how personally wounded I felt when I found the first significant scratches (all the way through the color layer) in the paint; I've never felt so attached to a car! Luckily they are in an inconspicuous area and I hope to obtain some touch-up paint soon.

    Last minute decision for me.
Called around in the morning and one dealer called back to say the one listed on Craigslist the day before sold, but another was on the way. Said if I did the paperwork on the 30th and paid in full, it would qualify. I hope that it not a problem. Picked it up on Oct 1.
