Hello I am in need of some advice/help. I last drove my Prius about a week and a half ago and it was working perfectly fine. I tried to drive it yesterday and all the lights would turn on but the car won't shift to reverse or drive. I am getting a "Check Hybrid System" message. I searched this error and people were saying it could be the 12v battery, I tried jump starting the car but am still getting the same error and even disconnected the battery to try to reset but am still getting the same error. Is my only hope to get it towed to the dealership? Thank you!
They probably mean bring the battery up to 12.7v before starting the car again or replace the unit itself.
agree^^^ if a healthy battery doesn't fix it, you'll have to read the trouble codes. with a 10 year old hybrid battery, a cell might have gone out of whack. have you cleaned the cooling fan and battery case interior?
Just wanted to update for anyone in a similar situation in the future. I ended up buying a battery charger and charged my 12v battery overnight. The voltage was reading just fine but the car still wouldn't shift to reverse or drive, only stayed in Park or went to Neutral. I even bought an OBD2 and cleared the Check Hybrid System code but it still kept coming back. I ended up getting it towed to the dealership and mentioned that the J0V recall was still pending on the car. They called me back later that day to let me know that the repair will be covered under that recall and several parts will need to be replaced including the Intelligent Power Module; they stated that it would have cost around 5k and it's a big job so I'm thankful that it's covered.
My son’s 2011 had all the recalls (jov, hybrid system software update) done and it still stalled while driving. It happened today again when he was on the freeway. The car lost power and bunch of lights came on, including the “Check Hybrid System”. He was able to get off to an exit. I followed a procedure on you tube to reset it and was able to drive it home. I did some search and it seems the recall didn’t fix the problem (car supposed to go to fail safe mode but doesn’t). I am really concerned about this issue. His car has 147k miles and even though it might be time for new hybrid battery, there has to be a safer warning than this. Anyone has any new info about the recall that was supposed to take care of this stalling issue. thx
Hybrid battery last about 12-15 years in most states except florida or arizona. It is usually the inverter in early models have some issues and got recalls. Check for recall and you may get it fixed for free. Brake booster for 2011-2015 also covered for unlimited miles until August 2011. Make sure you check the air intake for battery cooling regularly and clean it to keep your battery last. In UK/Ireland, all new Hybrid have 15 years battery warranty. 10 years in the rest of europe.
The cooling intake is by the rear seat on the passenger side, correct. I remember seeing something like that. He’s been saying the fuel gauge is not accurate so right now I am thinking the car ran out of gas (even though it was at 3 bar) and the ev mode kicked in and eventually shut down. He said every time this happened, the hybrid bat was at zero. thx
