    Great post by the O.P!

If it was only this simple with the Prime. Luckily, if the Prime is the long distance car for trips, we just temporarily remove the compact spare from our Lexus, wrap it in plastic, and place it behind the passenger seat on the floor. Not the best spot, but we'd have it if needed.

Don't ALL gen 4 get the jack, regardless of whether they have the spare?

The jack and tools also comes w/ the Prime and no real spare. It is housed under the rear seats.

I bought a matching OEM wheel for my 2016 Prius Three online and an OEM TPMS unit. When the original tires were replaced at 45K miles I had my mechanic save the best tire (on its wheel) for a full-size spare. So, all five tires/wheels are full-size and have TPMS. After removing the foam insert the floor is slightly less solid but not significantly and the rubber mat adds rigidity. Now there is significant storage below the cargo floor, particularly in the center of the wheel. When the new tires are worn about 40-50K miles I can include the spare in the rotation and then replace it with the next set of tires. This way I always have a full-size spare that has some tread and it's only as old as the last set of tires. I got Mastercraft LSR Touring tires that seem to be ok in terms of mpg but it's too soon to tell. They seem to handle better than the OEM tires and seem slightly wider even though they are the same 195/65/15.

Apologies for the delay. I took several more pictures and am posting them now.
    Hi all,

Apologies for the delay. I’ve taken more photos and uploaded. I put these pics in order I described below but for some reason this site is mixing them up. But you should be able to get the idea....

    1. Photo of trunk as is.
    2. Carpet and cover removed. As you can see everything fits. There is no gapping and/or other adjustments that need to be made becasue the center piece of foam is one I made the dealership give me from a Prius 2 that does come with a spare option
    3. Center foam taken out so you can see spare.
    4. I popped out the two side pieces of foam so you can see.
    5. Pic of the spare tire only in trunk.

See, all fits so don’t let a deal tell you otherwise.

    Thanks all!

Just realized there was a part of someone’s question I missed previously...

I had a 2008 Prius that was totalled, thus the need for a new one. Before the old car was hauled off, I took the spare tire, jack, tools, the round plastic piece that holds the tire down and a few other plastic pieces that help mould the tire/tools that were in the trunk. None of those come with the 2016 Prius 4 so you’ll buy or replace them somehow. Try maybe Pick a Part/junk yard locations for “used”?

Btw- I’m SO glad to have the spare. I blew out a tire when I ran over a piece of metal on a stretch of road late, late one evening. I hit it at an such an angle that it gouged out a piece of the sidewall. There’s NO WAY the stupid fix a flat can would have helped. AAA said it would take 1-1.5 hours to get to me since I was in the middle of nowhere.

Luckily for me, a kind soul stopped to help me change the tire. Man was I happy to have the spare! Saved me a long wait and cost to tow to the nearest garage since it was beyond the mileage allowance of my plan.

PS. When I went to get a new tire, the salesman told me that using fix a flat can cause a multitude of even more expensive problems like:

    1. The goo is a pain in the butt to clean out of the tire and can lead of Clog/ruin/damage sensors for the TMPS
    2. Corrode the wheel if you can’t get the tire fixed immediately
    3. Shouldn’t be used in colder weather because even if it comes out of the can, it could freeze in the tire and throw the wheel out of balance

I think you do get the jack (on levels that don't have the spare?

You can use 3rd or 4th gen spec temp spare. 3rd and 4th gen OEM tire size is 195/65R15, yet for some reason, they went from this with 3rd gen (owner's manual info):

    To this:

    upload_2020-6-9_17-1-52.png

I would recommend the 3rd gen 16" temp spare size; the OD is quite close to the 195/65R15 The 4th gen 17" OTOH, is significantly smaller OD. Not sure why they did that.

Search for either tire size on TireRack, and you'll find various options.

The part number for the rim can be determined by going to somewhere like McGeorge Toyota Parts (online retailer), entering either 2010 or 2016 Prius as your vehicle, and searching for "wheel"/

I went for a full-sized aluminum 15" wheel and new tire on it.

This, of course, raised the floor - so I had to come up with a way to create a floor support around it. I lost some trunk space, but gained a safety margin for the big areas that are the USA. A mini-spare is probably good enough for the UK or France I guess.

No longer the case: only the base level has a spare. Well as far as I know; there's a massive typo on the Toyota Canada website. I emailed them about it, twice, and they said they don't see anything wrong with this:

I've marked up what I believe represents reality.
