Mine, like many others, is coming up to 8 years old and still works fine. There may have been some loss in battery capacity, but I still get around 16-18 km range on a full charge (range varies on many conditions).

    welcome!

they are probably good for 10-15 years, or 150,000 250,000 miles, depending on many conditions.

new batteries are probably worth more than the car, and i would check in your country for pricing and availability.
    all the best!(y)

Thanks :) which means regular Prius is better than the phv because the hv battery is much much cheaper than the phv

that's one way to look at it. the regular prius is a great car, and battery replacement options are relatively cheap, easy and plentiful compared to the plug in.

if you don't want the 10-15 miles of ev, i can't think of a reason to buy one.

Is there any possibility to convert plug in to normal Prius I mean the hv battery if I don’t need plug in option, only used as a regular Prius???

All of my daily driving to the stores and my shop are within the 10 miles range so I rarely use any gas. I love my 2014 plug in. On a long trip I usually get about 52 mpg. My other Prius which is a 09 gets around 46 mpg on the highway.

Well I haven't had to replace the battery yet, so right now for me the PHV is cheaper because I'm using about 35-40% less fuel overall (electricity is dirt cheap in comparison). In Ireland, the battery is covered by an extended warranty up to 15 years. It's unlikely I will own the car that long anyway.

when you say convert, if you mean, do i need to plug it in? the answer is no, it always behaves like a regular prius when it has no wall charge.
if you mean, can i replace the hybrid battery with a standard battery if it goes bad? the answer is no. the plug in battery is lithium, the standard gen 3 battery is nimh. the software doesn't play nice.

What @bisco said. If the battery gets so low in capacity that it's not worth plugging in, it'll still be a great hybrid car. If the battery fails, then I don't think it can be converted although it might be fun to experiment with the battery ECU and a battery from a regular hatchback.

I bought a single battery pack (it takes 4) on ebay for $225. Hasn't been on a charger for over a year and the voltage is still up. I figure if the pack fails it won't be all 4 at the same time so I can just replace to bad one. It came with the harnesses and sensors complete.

Ah! The confusion was probably because your info says you have a 2008. ;)

How do you recognize which battery pack is bad? Any suggested phone apps?
