Went to the local Pep Boys on Tuesday and again, today. They are shutting down their retail parts and accessories operation and retaining only their service operation. They had no application data on their oil filters, so I went home and went back, today. Their original price on the Purolator L14476 Toyota compatible spin on was $4.99 which is two dollars less than Advance Auto. Knowing that, I bought all that was left for $2.49 each, including one higher end Purolator one at $3.59 before taxes. Here is a photo of my new stash.
After seeing how bad FRAM oil filters are from YouTube reviews, after many years of using them, I won't be buying any more, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkdZ_iX-hws https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTNJLEV8CG8
I've been to 3 stores so far... First was fairly picked over, although I did buy a bunch of microfiber cloths at $12.50/50 pack and I replenished my zip-tie collection for cheap. Second store was *really* picked over, not much I had use for, although I picked up a few quarts of 15W40 for my bike. Third store had already been converted to "service only". Thing is, on a lot of the chemicals and cleaning supplies, Pep Boys' prices at 50% off were still more than you'd pay at Wal*Mart. Oil, too, so buyer beware. No wonder they're leaving retail.
Being laid off is boring, so I hit a couple more stores today. 10-pack of 2825 bulbs, 75 cents. I have a corner light that has a nasty habit of blowing, happy to pay 7.5 cents per bulb. Bug & tar remover, I have some bug stains on the bumper that won't wash off, three bucks. Best score was Berryman B-12 Chemtool, my personal choice for keeping the fuel system clean. Bought all 4 cans they had left for $2.24 each.
