Well, I got zero feedback on my radio replacement thread a month or so ago...so I did some research and put my complete system in this past weekend. Thought some other researchers might appreciate the PDF.

I embedded the Crutchfield instruction sheets in the PDF as well. BTW, the BLACK wire at the at accessory wiring is B+, NOT ground....ask me how I know. Goes to show you what happens when you assume.

Yup..it's my fault...I usually have my meter with me when doing things like this. That's why theres a picture of the low profile fuse kit I bought from Amazon in the PDF. I didn't have ANY of those fuses !! (Argh) :)

Decades ago when I first saw a black power cable, I thought it was a miss print!
Ground use to be green, then they added black.
I guess one day there will only be one wire for everything!
    Or no wires! :)

    Decent instructions.
I think you could have done a better job with the microphone. You should have thought about
how to do that for a bit. :)
And the usb port. They make them that plug right in place of the blank.
But as long at it works, that's what counts. :)

Good job! Now if you had gotten paid for it, that would have been great! :) :)

I did think about it. It appears the latest Pioneer head units use a NOISE CANCELING mic. However, you HAVE to have the second set of rings exposed to the surrounding for it to work. So, I was going to place the microphone inside the overhead unit (like the OE), but then it would not have functioned as well. So, I picked function over ascetics. It doesn't bad sitting in the vehicle.

Well, I could not find a direct replacement ad no one posted in my previous thread. If yo have a link for a direct heated seat blank USB replacement...could you post the link for others?

I didn't see that message or I would have sent you a link for the usb.
But you can just search ebay, that's what I did. Then even gave the measurments.
That's the one I bought. It was a snugger fix then the blank, but since it's not coming out
it doesn't matter to me. :)

Maybe you can find some model paint and paint the microphone so it matches.
And it YOU the drive doesn't see it, no one else matters! :)

Yep, I saw it. What you did works though.
But you can find ones that are a direct replacement. No reason to now though,
unless you want too replace it, or need another one.
Actually, mine is a double one that I tapped into an unused fuse slot.
This one is similar to the one I bought: Charger Adapter Twin Dual Double 2 USB Port 12V In Car Socket Lighter For Toyota | eBay

I also got one that has the 3.5mm head phone jack and usb. I mounted it next to the start button.
This is similar: Car Dash Flush Mount USB Port 3.5mm AUX Extension Cable Lead Mounting Panel | eBay

How does that sub sound? Fits under a front seat I'm assuming?

    Mark,

Works great !...Yes, it fits under the passenger seat and the volume & frequencies stalk is two-sided taped onto center console. Having that remote is really nice..so you can tailor the sound per song.

Hello ArmyChief (and fellow Floridian). Great Job! Thanks a ton for sharing your info with PriusChat as well as the extensive photos, etc. Hoping great karma comes your way!

    1. I've heard that steering wheel buttons can become inoperative after installing an aftermarket head unit. Have you had any issues with that?
    2. Did the Pioneer connect directly to the existing backup camera? Or did you need to install one yourself?
    3. Wife has an Android phone but will likely not use the Android Auto feature. Do you have any info on how it will interface with non-Apple phones?
    4. Finally, I plan to only install the head unit. Wife doesn't need high quality sound. Do you see any potential pitfalls with that?

    Thank again!

    Cory

    Cory, thanks fellow Floridian !

I’ll try to answer as accurate as I can.

    1. Yes, steering wheel controls will not work unless you get the box (don’t have receipt open with me, but all parts are listed in the PDF), to connect the steering wheel controls to the Pioneer head unit. So, that is a necessity!

    2. The other purchased adapter (in the PDF) was needed to utilize the existing backup camera. So, no new camera was needed to install. Picture quality is really good in that head into too.

    3. I have tried both Apple and Android, works great.

    4. I did not install any amplifier, unit has a good amp in it. All I did is add subwoofer, which I think is definitely needed in any sound system.

BTW, the factory Prius speakers are complete junk...so..you may rethink adding speakers.

I ordered a new Pioneer with a 6.8” screen but it’s preordered and won’t be here/ ship until Friday. Seriously thinking about upgrading to the 9” screen for $300 more

What size is your screen, do you wish you went bigger??

you .pdf shows you removed the map light assembly housing. I need to remove mine but am not sure what is holding it in place. All screws removed at this point. But it seems as if I will break something by prying. Any information on safe removal greatly appreciated. 2013 Prius Plug-in.

I think it depends on what type you have. Mine, just popped down in the front (nearest windshield) and then slide out of the back. If still unsure, try YouTube for more visual.
