I recently got a Prius a couple of months ago and I don’t see an aux port in the car. Is there a way I can add one that isn’t too hard or too expensive, or a way I can add Bluetooth just so I can listen to music other then the radio. There’s a CD player, but I don’t use CDS
Congrats on your Prius, lucky you! I “believe” there are connections in the rear of the stereo unit (without removing it) that you can use to install a different piece of equipment. If you disable/unplug the CD or the tape deck, you can use that connection to power a new device without removing the existing unit. Now I’m not certain about this, but I did research this previously for my own purposes as I have the same interest. I have no idea how to access the connections and or remove the stereo deck all together, but maybe it’s simpler than it seems. These cars seems to snap together with parts when you start investigating a bit. You might go to a stereo shop and ask around first to see what they suggest. Please keep us posted with any solution to get your tunes. I’d love to get a Bluetooth device in there even if I have to somehow duct tape or use plastic tie straps to secure the device up in there so I can play music from my cell phone. Hope this helps and best of luck to you.
I found something online called an FM transmitter that you plug into the outlet in the center. Here’s a link: It looks like you plug it in find a blank FM station and pair it with your phone and it works with Bluetooth. I might get one and see if it works.
I've used the FM transmitters before. They're not so great, especially if you cover a lot of ground or go on a road trip. I have an '03 and found these: Compare GROM Car Audio Integration Kits The install was easy and they show you how. The lowest priced option seems to be $70 to add Aux. I did the TOYOU3 largely b/c USB sounds so much better (and I like having a dedicated USB stick in there). I later added the Bluetooth dongle. But by now I'm into it for almost $200. To me it was worth it tho. I do recall coming across other options but can't recall what they were.
My experience with the FM transmitters wasn’t good either. The GROM product is pricey enough that I’d prefer to plug in a real unit directly into the dash to the audio cables.... if that’s possible. Still waiting for an an audio tech solution.
I am frustrated that the designers for the prius did not car if upgraded the stereo You cannot put a new one in and i went to the Toyota dealership about ordering one. They are at $1000. So where do i get one? I have the cassette deck one (it doesnt even work on my 2002)
I use the cassette adapter. Just load it in the deck and plug the wire that comes out into your phone. Seems to work fine. Unfortunately, I gave it to the lady that bought my silver 02 today, so I gotta find another one. The other problem you'll have trying to hardwire a solution is getting the dash off to access the stereo without breaking it. I think Chap posted a thread on how to do it, but it's still chancy. Your stereo could cost an addition $100+ for a new dash insert.
