I just put a HV battery in my 2008 Prius.

I haven't driven this car since I've had it due to having to put said battery in it lol

What is a realistic mpg for this car?

I notice that on the readout for current mpg when you're driving it dips a lot when you're going up a hill or just in general have your foot in the gas (which makes sense...)

What should I expect with regular rural and highway driving for mpg?

40-50 mpg based on weather, driving style, speed, accelleration and hills and dales.

It really depends on a lot of things, including whether the HV battery you put in was a new one or second-hand.

You could expect anywhere from 39 - 49 MPG. The US average on Fuelly is ~44 MPG. Some in the US do get up to 50 – 52 MPG, but these seem to be the outliers.

In my experience, a gen2 that is had it’s maintenance done properly, driven in normal conditions, mix city highway, should average around 44-46. We’ve had a new gen2s in the family, and friends with them as well.

Before my old HV battery died I was averaging like 46-47

I have also replaced the air filter and have some new tires on in the front.

Considering doing the spark plugs too

    Being snarky....

The further up the evolutionary chain, the higher the mileage ;)

If you drive like an absolute animal, 40ish, if you drive like a reasonable, conservative person who values their life and that of others, up to about 50 MPG.

My wife's 2008 is a new traction battery and I got 50 miles per gallon on the last three hundred miles mostly highway driving, my 2007 touring with 241 thousand Miles gets 45 miles per gallon. It has the original battery.

One year old replacement battery gives me 750-780 km in the city, means 44-45MPG. Weather and temperature does not affect consumption until now.

Yeah but winters in Greece? That said, we've watched a few Turkish series (just next door), and (especially in Ankara) they're freezing their butts in winter, snow and everything.

I'll report next winter, I have the car for 4 months only. Winter in Athens rarely gets below 5 Celsius, not to compare with Ankara!

My 2008 gets about 60 average if I drive carefully. That's about 50 in US

I USED to get around 45mpg in my old Gen 2's, but that was with commuting to work. In my current one I'm getting about 37ish. I believe the battery is ok rather it's because I do a lot of really short trips in a hilly area. If I take the car on a long ride, it slowly creeps up again into the 40's.

I have an 04 Prius and bought it used at 175K. Been driving it for about 1000 miles now and my average is about 41MPG. My hybrid battery test shows that battery capacity is estimated at 58% provided via Dr. Hybrid app. I've cleaned the MAF sensor, throttle body cover, replaced engine filter, make sured air is set at proper PSI and don't drive on the freeway with windows down. All these plus more can be a factor to lowering or increasing MPG
