Hi 2 days ago I visited toyota dealer and they offered to my 2010 prius an "necessary" update campaign for free that was available for my car... But after that I have noticed that the car donot allow me to use ev mode like before... (just under pwr part of the hybrid synergy drive meter) while going under 50km... Actually with engine heated in normal use it will go out of ev at even 30 km even without going in this last pwr part of the combination meter... Have anyone noticed something similar?

I had J0V done back in March. Haven't noticed anything different.

probably, yet, others here have many different complaints about the update. it definitely limits battery output, so who knows?

J0V didn't 'limit' anything, just fixed a bug where an inverter error was supposed to be handled by switching to limp-home mode but would switch to off instead.

In a small subset of cars where E0E was supposed to have been done but wasn't (that proofreading goof, d'oh), getting J0V done would also mean getting E0E done for real this time.

That one did have MG ECU updates to address the solder-joint rapid-heat-cool issue that had been identified in the report to NHTSA. People seem to assume the only software way to address that would be some brute-force limiting of acceleration, but that seems to involve a pretty 'limited' view of how a problem like that could be addressed.

Well , I have noticed that the battery is more limited after this campain... When i am going downhill i can see the engine start like if it was in b mode and as i can feel and confirm the mechanical brakes engage more often without filling the regen bar... Also when i try to accelerate fast in ev mode the engine kicks in and i get the message ev mode off due to hard acceleration. Or smt like that... But i donot go into the pwr part of the combination meter... So have anyone else noticed something similar? I will keep testing... To be sure but it feels much different these days in behavior than it used to be...

Sometimes updates WILL do more than what is published. For example, one class of model S Teslas have had their maximum range limited, & this was buried in another update. Supposedly a traction pack fire in China was what set this update in motion, though it wasn't the publushed purpose. Similarly, if a Prius is under warranty - but the traction has a couple weak cells, a limitation could stop the others from being dragged down during the warranty period. That's Just speculation, and one speculative example of extra goodies that come with updates.

I’ve seen posts like yours about lesser EV use and more ICE being used after software updates on here so your not the only one who was affected

Well, after monitoring the dcl and ccl the values are alot lower than before....and get even lower when the battery start getting even a little temp... 40c or smt close... Also I can hear the motor revving like in B mode but while I'm in Drive mode and drive downward in a little inclination... At the same time I have seen ccl down to -4kw... So wastes energy instead of save it to the bat in order to make less use of the bat... And of course with dcl set to 22kw probably instead of 28 or 30 that it used to be the car uses less battery during acceleration...

Those observations could lead one to ask about the age of the battery.

I looked up "Toyota LGG76", it is the same thing as J0V here. That's more inverter-related than battery-related; again, it's focused on the transistor switches inside the inverter. And those are always in the game, whether the power is passing between battery and wheels or engine and wheels or engine and battery. It's not clear what assumptions you're operating on; maybe more access to your actual before and after data would clarify something.

Well , the moment I left Toyota I noticed the behavior.. durring hard acceleration ... it did not accelerate as before! But after time I realised that the dcl value was not more 30kw but 22... That would probably mean that the motor ecu is not allowed to use more than 22kw by the battery's saved energy... so that is why I think I can notice it accelertes slower than before... The battery is 5 years old... Not services nor single modules change etc... It failed and changed with new one at dealler! All I can say is that after the campaign the car protects more the battery for sure...

You had record of DCL being 30 kw prior to the work and 22 afterward?

    Can anybody replicate?

Exactly... When the bat was getting above 45celsius it was like 28 or 25 can't remember exactly but I had not seen any lower than that... Also... During harsh acceleration I could sometimes smell the gunpowder smell the cells emmit when stressed... Now ,I mean since the toyota campaign it doesn't anymore (which is good and acceptable) although the car lacks power...

That's quite a development ... that update has been talked about endlessly here on PriusChat and you're the first to have said there is a readable parameter that you had prior record of to confirm was changed.

Can you say anything more about your methodology and records?

    For anybody else: can replicate?

Hi GG707, temps of 45 and even 40C is pretty hot for the traction battery, what device are you using to monitor the hybrid system, and does your device allow to turn on the hybrid battery fan manually? (40 Celsius is 104 in Fahrenheit, 45C is 113F:confused:)

Yup. I use both torque and Hybrid assistand depended on the case .. both have the manual fan control ... unfortunately is a must to use them since these are the normal temps for summer in Athens Greece especially when I get in car in afternoon I can easily see temps up to 50 for traction battery... That triggered me and I asked about the solar roof and cooling fan setup which my car has but it still gets hight temps in cab... since it is parked in open parking area without shadow... Of course once I get in the car and I do a couple of km the temp gets lower but some times the battery is still 40c when I reach home...

Also if I play a bit around with Regen and ev even during March or April (20c) which is cooler weather i can see the bat temp easily reach 45c but ofcourse in a fiew moments of calm drive and full fan it returns to 35 where it usually stops the manual or automatic bypass of the fan controll (hybrid assistand auto fan temps under and up to 15c to heat the modules in winter temps and over down to 35 to cool in summer) except if you keep using it total manually.

Unfortunately I have not managed to recover screenshots of torque and hybrid assistant that show the 28kw dcl and ccl, out of my old phone... That the car used to have before the relative update... So I wonder, does anyone have any screenshots of gen3 (2010) preferably european version (if there is difference at all to the rest of the versions)where the limits are shown...?

My prius did the LGG76B campaign, and the maximum DCL in hybrid assistant is 21KW, but I still see current spikes of 130 A at full trottle.
    130A x 220v = 28600W = 28.6KW
Something doesn't match, why is the battery output 28,6KW if the DCL is set to 21KW?
