Just bought the second PHV, for my wife. We love that car! Anybody else out there with two PHV? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Congrats on the second and wilkommen to PriusChat! Love the solar roof! (We don't have that option in North America)
What does the solar roof do on the Prime? Run a cabin cooling fan (per third gen), or charging a battery?
It's maybe drop-in-the-bucket? Or maybe they've improved the solar panel efficiency and/or increased area.
there's a whole thread on it. depends on how much time in the sun, and sun angle. definitely won't pay for itself, but in japan, idk.
It charges the traction battery. Toyota estimates 2-6km/day or about 700km of solar km per annum. It can charge the 12V while driving as well so it’s working both when the car is parked and when it motion.
I thought the Mrs. was smitten with the Gen2 ? Time for a change it sounds . Look forward to the update.
The solar roof charges our battery up to 8km (5 miles?) per day. But only in the summer. It does not pay back the money but it is an absolute eye catcher as absolute unique in the car world. And it is a great feeling when you drive 100% ecologic (our Energie is still partly generated by coal Power plants). Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
She is. She really loves it. But she also accepts that it's coming up on 14 years old. And she's been kind of ogling that upcoming Rav4 Prime. But I'm pretty sure our pockets aren't that deep. I really don't know what we'll settle on, but hope to do something before the end of the year.
Pix, not as bad as video. What are people thinking when they shoot video in portrait mode? Phones need to disallow it. Our eyes are side by side, not stacked on top of each other. Portrait oriented photos are fine with the right subject as are square ones. Never video. Ever. For any reason.
Theatres, Televisions, Computer monitors all favor Landscape. I agree videos should disallow Portrait.
Computer monitor for my work, I use portrait. Need to read many pdf documents, the entire page on a screen without scrolling is a must.
Europe gets the PV option that Japan has. Opting for it means forgoing higher trim features there though. The expand upon @Tideland Prius post, the PV panel chargers a NiMH pack under the rear seat while the the car is parked. The energy from that goes to the traction battery when the car is turned on. I've a comment from Toyota that this is more efficient that trickle charging the traction pack directly. Perhaps there are also concerns about the Li-ion health, or with safety regulations. When the the car is running, the PV adds energy to the 12V accessory grid. Won't be unique for long. the new Sonata hybrid coming out has a PV roof. Fair enough. The only portrait use of a monitor I've seen in the office was also dual monitors. Of course, a work computer with a portrait monitor for paperwork, isn't going to be the first choice for watching movies or actual video games. Until Garfield came along, printed and written works were done in a "portrait mode". Putting the monitor in that orientation for such static works probably is a better. Today's dynamic works of movies and games are designed for landscape though, which was this little subthread's point.
Back in the day most monitors and even laptops were almost square (4:3 I believe 650x480 pixels). Then came the wid(er) screens eg. 16:9 and even wider. These allowed the manufacturer to claim larger screen sizes as they were measured diagonally without much more actual real estate. Scam IMO.
Unless you're doing desktop publishing and need to be able to see AND read a two-page spread without scrolling.
