It's just shy of a foot above the floor, so a lot can fit underneath. My rolling carry-on suitcase fits underneath.

Yes, not much room under the height of the hard tonneau cover. If you get lightweight flexible tonneau cover which use to come with lower trims, it can stretch to cover items higher than the level of the tonneau. However, my 2020 LE came with a hard tonneau cover, so Toyota may have stopped the flexible type tonneau in 2020 models. That being said, I never use the tonneau cover in my PRIME, but I always carry an old blanket. I can use it to cover the items under the blanket if I need to hide it, or use it to spread over the folded rear seat for protection.

    Hi Jay,

How did you remove the front passenger seat back?

Hmm ok, yeah it didn’t look like a lot of room in the pics, but four inches did seem crazy small. A foot still isn’t a ton, but I can actually fit some stuff under that.

I didn't. It folds back flat with the back seat if you remove the head rest.

Did you misread my comment? I said the floor is about 4" higher. Therefore about 4" LESS ROOM than a regular Gen 4.

We had no problems at all with the two of us making a 6,000 mile trip last year carrying our luggage and a donut spare tire. Somewhere here I posted pictures but can't find them now. As you can see, the tonneau cover bulged a little but not enough to obstruct the view. The spare was under the coats. Also the back seat was pretty full. Mostly the cooler, food, and small bags for overnight stops.

I was a little concerned about how much weight can be placed on the battery cover area. But I see here it’s quite a bit. :) Randi

Oh, yes! My bad! You said 4” or so less vertical space and I thought you said 4” or so of vertical space. Thanks for the pics; still looks like plenty can fit under the cover! And I love the two tone seats btw. I didn’t see the option in any of the ones my dealer has, but it’s super cool.

Note that for 2020, it's white/light grey for the two-tone "Moonstone" interior. 2017-2019, it was white/black.

Has anyone loaded 2x4 wood studs in a Prius prime? They are 8ft long.

Not quite eight feet. Wall studs for standard walls of 8 feet are 92 5/8 inches.

I have not put them in my Prime, but have loaded actual eight foot long (96") 2X10s. IIRC, I had to put a pad on the dash and rest the front of the boards on the pad. And I took the very slow back roads home making darn sure I didn't have to slam on the brakes.

Yup! You can always check with a tape measure beforehand.

Actual 8 foot boards fit easily. I always buy those because they are the same price as 92-whatever boards, and I'm not building walls. They don't need to go on the dash. You could fit a box 8 feet long by 2 feet wide by at least 1 foot high.

I just transported some 10 foot 2x4s. I was surprised they fit, and I expected they would have to stick out the window. Only four will fit because of the way they have to wedge under the dash. There's still about 8 inches of space between the back of the boards and the back glass. I think it might be possible to fit one 12 foot board diagonally.

We loaded up 8 foot long steel lawn edging a couple years ago in the prime. Had to cover the sharp bits on each end with a ton of wrags to keep them from damaging the car if we had to stop or start suddenly. Had it in ECO mode and gas to make the car as slow as possible.

Has anyone tried covering the rear window with something if you have to park somewhere like a city when you have items in the trunk that don’t firm under the cover?
