Hi there, I'm new to this forum (and to such forums in general), so hope I'm following the rules by posting here. Anyhow, I just got a 2017 Prius Four (only 12k miles, Toyota certified, beautiful Moonstone SofTex interior, Blizzard Pearl exterior)... Anyhow, this configuration comes with the tire inflator kit, NOT the spare tire setup.

Would someone out there be interested in trading the inflator kit (and related components) for the spare tire kit? The inflator setup offers a lower load floor and less weight, but I do a lot of long-distance travel and would feel more comfortable with the spare tire kit.

Anyhow, if you're interested, please let me know. Thank you!

I'd be trying a wrecking yard which has a PRIUS with a spare wheel.

3rd gen spare will also work, and the 16" specd size is closer in OD to reg tire than 4th Gen. OTOH they're getting a little long in the tooth.

Just my 2 cents: there's probably no one on the planet interested in trading the spare setup for the goop kit.

Like you, I have a Prius that never came with a spare tire. However, I was able to buy an older Prius model's 16" spare tire from Craiglist years ago that fit perfectly which I finally got to use a few months ago. The only downside is that because my Prius was never meant to have a spare tire, there is no compartment for it so the spare tire is just lying inside the trunk area and is a burden when loading groceries and what not in the trunk.

There IS a compartment for it, just currently filled with foam. You CAN resolve that if you want...

Depending on how you approach it, not without cash outlay? There was someone did that back in model year 2016 IIRC, spent over a grand, for the temp spare rim and tire, and the various parts surrounding it. Even then it's somewhat makeshift: with the (non-spare) hatch floor raised the gaps increased a bit.

    Ah here it is:

Looks like it will cost a pretty penny to do that. I'll just leave it as it is.

I read through it and looks like it will cost over $1000 for that? Nope. I'll keep it the way it is right now.

I thought I read some other person did a very budget change, removing the foam, and building up the floor height with some packing
?foam? - might have even been a gym mat??

That's actually a good idea. I think there are many ways to fill that gap in.

I had a quick search in PriusChat search. I'm busy at the moment - but try a GOOGLE Search - something like:

I got quite a few responses, but didn't open any.

I just bought a 2020 L Eco Without spare tire. I purchased a spare off EBay for $129 delivered.
I then used a hot knife to cut a circle in the foam insert. The spare fits perfectly with the cover over the top and no lumps.

Did you get a tie-down completed? Or are you just using gravity?

No tie down. Everything fits snug in there.

Didn't someone on here cut out a hole in the gunge kit polystyrene blocks to fit a separately purchased skinny spare under the floor with good results ?
That seems to be the cheapest DIY way to do it.

I bought a spare tire on eBay for $129. Pulled the 2 piece foam insert out and cut a hole in it using a knife that I heated with a propane torch. I ran a strap diagonally from the two tie downs in the event I rolled the car.
The tire fits snug and the cover lays on top with no lumps. 3306266F-9196-4851-9FB2-72EF13AB538A.jpeg 9798779A-8A05-4546-A7E7-CE711A7F7CCD.jpeg

Good job! But I think $129 is too expensive unless it’s brand new maybe? I got mine for $50 (used) off Craigslist.

I did that. 5" or 6" thick foam (can't recall which it is) isn't 'cheap,' but I was hoping for even more sound deadening. It's built up around a full-sized spare. Full-sized spare is bolted down to the spare-wheel-mount that was on my car (but wasn't on another 2019 or 2020 IIRC).

I hope that's not the case; Toyota is really burning their bridges if so.

Hang on: do you mean the weld-nut at the bottom of the well is missing?

    (Understand this is "IIRC" status.)
