Simple stereo amp power connection?

    What's the best power connection technique for a aftermarket amp going into a 2011 Prius?

    I'm doing head unit, all speakers, and amp.

    Also, pull the main 12v power before starting, right?

    Assuming that the amp will be in the rear half of the car, I would lay in a wire sized for the demand back towards the 12v battery at the back of the car, and connect it to an in-line fuse holder hooked up to the shunt side of the + connector on the battery.

    Yes, disconnect the 12v power during your work.

    Perfect. I thought it was that simple but unsure of the connection point. Thant helps me a ton!
    Yes, amp is going in the back so I'll do a short link to the battery and keep the ground as short as possible.

    Should not be hard. You always put your fuse holder as close to the source (battery) as possible, and if you connect it to the shunt side instead of the battery side then the draw of the amp will be 'noticed' by the DC/DC converter and factored into the charge cycle for the 12v.

    I'm sorry that I'm not exactly clear. I'm very handy but not up to speed on the Prius.

    So I hear you, don't connect the amp power cable (yes I have a proper sized Alpine amp cable w / inline fuse) to the starting battery.

    This is where I'm clueless. So do I follow the positive battery cable from the starting battery and I will find a connection point between the Toyota e-car battery and the starting battery? It's kind of buried but I hear you about integrating it into the the charging system. It's a 2011 and if I just dig will I find it?

    Thanks and sorry for the hassle. Also I can find a stero wiring diagram anywhere. Need to sort out two of the four plugs from the factory stereo.

    ROGER- Sorry for the previous note. I got it. There is only the accessory terminal post off the positive of the starter battery. There's nothing else there so I guess that's what you meant. Sorry. Also, I'll just buy and download the Toyota diagram. THX!

    Wish you had a pic of this shunt side for battery. Cause im trying to figure out where to hook up inline power.

    I got it, theres one bolt facing up right to the left of terminal connector under red flap.

    Yep, I would use that forward-facing terminal. I know there's a protection fuse between that and the battery clamp, and at least some models of Prius also have a sense shunt there to make certain that the DC/DC converter is driving enough output to recoup all losses and maintain 12v charge.
