Not at all my experience over the past couple weeks! Status quo with these sales guys!

In fact I found a reader board somewhere with a bunch of sales guys bashing on all the people calling them up and trying to get crazy deals on cars and them saying customers are telling them well, in a week or two you’ll come crying back to me to buy your cars!

I got another dealer down to $33,500... so not bad off of what I wanted... see below for more details...

I finally gave up on this dealer. Sadly, one I trusted but they couldn’t come through for me in finding one and nor were they willing to come down anymore on price.

I ended up finding the trim level I wanted on another lot, color wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but it works for us as we’ve had a few cars now with the similar color.

they really wanted my business so, as I mentioned above, they came down on price!

    Appreciate the replies, guys.

I'm tempted to roll the dice and wait until new programs for May... with the economy and major dip in oil prices, I wonder if Toyota will bump the rebate.

    XLE
The XLE we ordered back in January arrived this week. Even after it arrived we had to settle a few things over the phone before we scheduled the pickup yesterday.
1- They tried to say the Uber discount expired on Jan 6. - I found several dealer sites saying it was extended until the end of June 2020, so they did subtract the 750 from the price.

2- They said the only do the Ube discount if we financed. Thanks to posts here, I showed a screen shot of the actual wording and they eventually backed off. They about lost the sale on this as I was getting frustrated.

3- Back in Jan , we made a $500 deposit via credit card to place the order (refundable if we changed our minds for any reason). When determining the amount owed for the Cashier's Check, they failed to remember that 500 and I had to verify from my credit card website that I had actually paid 500 already. Not sure if that is the norm or an oversight, but wanted to warn others to pay attention.

Overall, we got an XLE without dealer added options. Bought OEM All Weather floormats back in Feb from Ebay.
I posted price earlier, but since its been a while here was our breakdown again (in Oklahoma where it is impossible to find Primes):

2020 Prius Prime XLE Magnetic Gray

    MSRP $30,969
    Dealer Discount $2,828
    Uber Discount $750
    Doc fee $349
    License fee $10
    Out the door: $27,750

Plus $214 (128 + 86) for All weather mats and cargo tray :username on Ebay 'toyotafactoryoemparts'

In Oklahoma, we pay Tag,Title at the DMV not dealer, and I should be able to claim all 4502 tax credit on 2020 taxes.

May rebate here in Southern California is the same as last month at $1,500. Was hoping it would get bumped up.

I am looking to upgrade my 2017 Prime Premium. Do you guys know if I should trade-in or sell privately? Is it possible to get the dealer to pay above KBB for it if it's a trade-in for a 2020 Prime?

What about the situation where I am aiming for a different car say a Hyundai or Chevy?

You'll generally be able to get a better price if you sell it yourself. BUT, you have to put in all the work of advertising it, meeting with potential buyers, etc. Trading it in is easier because the dealer will do all the leg work (which is why you'll get slightly less this way).

All that said, right now is a really tough time to sell a car. Demand is way low. Dealership inventories are through the roof. So, you may get a particularly low price for it today (regardless of how you sell it).

I just took the plunge and bought my first car in 20 years- a 2020 Prius Prime LE in Classic Silver Metallic. Also came with the all weather mats.

Dealerships are indeed desperate. I reached out to a few and would get follow up calls and emails daily. And many had numerous Primes in stock, which isn't typical, but they're stacking up since car sales are down so much. And there are good discounts if you know what to look for.

    Here's what we got:
    MSRP: $29,114
    Sales Price: $26,528
Toyota Cash Rebate: $2,000 (only in MD)
    Dealer Fees: $99
Taxes/Reg/Etc (in DC): $210 (DC waives excise taxes on efficient cars)
    Extended Warranty: $1069
    Grand total: $25,807

Being based in DC, I benefited from being able to shop in multiple states. The Virginia dealerships were upset to lose out on price because the $2000 customer cash deal was only for Maryland. And DC offers 0% tax and other fee discounts on cars with >40mpg. Add in the $4502 federal tax credit plus today's low interest rates, and we're pretty happy with the deal we got.

Trade in value right now is very low due to Covid-19. Its always better to sell it privately. My car's trade in value dropped by 3k (Carvana).

This is the closest ad on craigslist I could find to my car. I am looking in SoCal, specifically LA area. I don't really see many Primes on Craigslist. Maybe two or three from private sellers and the rest from dealers. Does that mean private selling has been effective even during this time?

Hard to say for sure if there aren't ads because demand is still ok or that people are hesitant to sell right now. I don't know the CA market. If you have a price in mind, it can't hurt to put up an add for it or reach out to some dealerships and see what they'll offer. If you don't like the response, don't sell.

Consider sales tax savings for trade in when making the decision whether to trade in or sell privately.

Good point, but does not apply in CA (correct me if I'm wrong).

Sorry. Just noticed you said Craigslist. Not the best source. Check a car-specific site like car gurus. I saw 80+ 2017 Prius Primes within 50miles of 90001 ( not sure where exactly you are). Still, if you want to give it a shot, you can see what you'd get and then decide.

Seems like MA and NY still have the 3500 rebate until 6/1. Any news on Toyota bumping the rebate up for June? With gas less than $2 and a good number of us still under quarantine, Primes gotta be collecting dust.

I didn't see any recent reports about plant closings so I assume they are still producing cars.

The news report I saw a while back showed very temporary closings they had -

Regarding Japan domestic production (as of March 23) | Corporate | Global Newsroom | Toyota Motor Corporation Official Global Website

    from the above link:

Due to the market situation and decline in demand overseas, we have decided to halt production for 7 production lines in 5 plants starting from April 3. The suspension period differs per plant and production line.

    • Takaoka Plant, #1 production line
3 operating days from Apr. 3 to 7.
    • Tsutsumi Plant, #1 and #2 production lines
3 operating days from Apr. 3 to 7.
    • Tahara Plant, #1 production line
6 operating days from Apr. 3 to 10.
    • Tahara Plant, #3 production line
8 operating days from Apr. 3 to 14.
    • Toyota Motor Kyushu (TMK), #1 production line
9 operating days from Apr. 3 to 15.
    • Hino, Hamura Plant, #1 production line
2 operating days from Apr. 3 to 6.
The plants/production lines other than above stated, will remain its operation as usual.
