2005 Prius, original owner. 196000 miles. 12v battery disconnected overnight and fully charged.

The actuator has been chattering every 20 seconds or so for a while, and now there's the parking brake, ABS and brake-icon warning lights on in the dash and it sporadically does the high pitched beeping, which I understand also means "problem with the brakes".

1, Anyone local to San Antonio with Techstream willing to help? I only have a generic bluetooth gadget and it shows no codes at all.

2, It has a dealer bought-and-installed traction battery in 2015 at ~150K miles.

Everything works great except for that brake actuator issue (climate control, lights, wipers, windows, etc.). Starts, runs, stops.
We're looking at getting a 2020 Prius, and this thing would have absolutely no trade-in value at all.

Would it make sense to repair it and maybe get $2000 out of it, or sell it for... $1000? and just get rid of it? I'm thinking the HV battery being recent is the big selling point, and possibly the two new front tires - but otherwise it's really too old to be worth a damn.

So what say yee? Sell? Repair? I suppose I could list it here where someone could use it for parts and the battery.

the battery might be worth a grand or so. maybe advertise it and see what offers you get.

you could look for a local mech willing to replace the actuator with salvage

Yeah, if I can find a reputable local mech, salvage would be very nice. Then I could drive the car another however-long-it-lasts as a beater. Hopefully someone here can chime in with a local reputable mech too. It seems I live in a Toyota-arrid climate (though we have a ton of dealerships).

It would be a bit of a hike for you, but @Texas Hybrid Batteries in DFW has a good reputation here. Although they specialize in hybrid battery replacement, they are knowledgeable about all things Prius and could probably give you some good options.

I think it worth to fix it just because you just have only 5 years on you oem hybrid pack so as long you planning to keep driving the car for more years to come I believe it worth it but if otherwise you intention is to sell, don’t fix it, because you will loose the DIY buyers that are looking for a car at a lower price that need something to get fixed.
