Jack Points / Lift Points

    omg, there are four points on the chasis for jack points, two on each side. if you look under the car on the bottom rails there are two notches on the front and the rear. between the notches its designed to put a floor jack, you can jack an entire side up to replace the tires by using the front jack point. thats what I always do when changing my tires, works fine.

    On 3rd gen Prius the rear jacking point is also offset, not terrifically, but enough to notice.

    I've used it countless times, never a problem.


    Again, just 3rd gen experience: the double notch demarcates where to put a specially shaped scissor jack cradle, and it can't even do that without crumpling slightly the body steel behind the crimped seam. Also, there is no difference, no reinforcement to that seam, at the notches.

    After looking at the picture and scouring the internet, I am very sure the front jack point is located at the subframe where a huge 19mm bolt (or could be 21mm) is located. That bolt is for the tranmission mount under the car.

    It is located very far from the front such that it cannot be accessed with any normal sized 3 ton jack. Not even sure if any low profile 3 ton jacks can access that with enough room for jacking rod to move up and down. Need to use the normal way of jacking from side pinch weld. It's very different compared to a Prius Gen3 where the front jack point is so well placed.

    Low rise ramps might help with the jack, give a little more clearance, both for the jack and give its handle more travel room

    DIY: 2 layers of 2x would probably do, give you 3” extra at the wheels.

    Can you post a picture? Do you need to remove the splash cover?

    I have never been sure where the front jack point is, so I always lift front 2 times, each time placing the floor jack behind the jack-stand point and then putting the jack-stand in place.

    There's no need to remove front splash shield...

    Look at the round hole of the splash shield, that should be the location for me your floor jack...

    Yeah looks like shield of 3rd gen Prius, which IS very close to front, only about 16~18" back.

    I think jacking point is circled? The bracket with arrow pointing to it looks like the Owner's Manual illustration, to collaborate.

    Those are two separate locations. The floor jack point is the circled point, not the bracket point, right?

    Yes, jacking point circled.

    the bracket with 4 bolts helps locate the illustration, which is poor: a looking straight up view of the whole underside would have helped.

    Thanks @Mendel Leisk for the picture of Prius C underbelly. Yes, that circled location is exactly what's shown in the user manual. However, it is just too deep from the front of the car. I am not sure what sort of floor jack will be able to reach that. I even tried from side but that location is like in the middle of the most inaccessible location for jacks.

    Again, Do-It-Yourself low-rise ramps might help. In North America, a common timber size is 1.5"x7.5". Drivinng the front wheels of the vehicle up on 2 thickness of such boards might give you enough room, both to roll the jack under and get the jack handle started.

    I got a rubber disk off wish for like ten cents after shipping. It has a notch in the center to allow that channel to go through without crimping.
