I am looking to do the EV switch mod and would really like to use the OEM switch that is used in Japan/Europe. Does anyone know how/where I can get one locally? Thanks, Mike V. <><
Otherwise you can order from Japanparts.com. You send them the two part numbers and they send a quote, including delivery and currency adjustment to you. They do have a surcharge for credit card use but I still got mine in a week from them for about $52 delivered.
I did the mod with an OEM-type rocker switch at first, but then modified the modification to use the light switch (purple wire). MUCH better! No hunting or feeling around, very natural. Also, if you have a few feet of scrap wire laying around, it's free.
Not exactly. That's Coastal's lovely mod that puts EV control on the CRUISE CONTROL LEVER on the right side of the steering wheel. It's probably the easiest EV modification you can do, and is "stealthy" - no dealer will ever notice it. The mod I'm talking about was "given away" by Coastal (like so many other modifications). I don't remember where they released the information, but it puts the control on the LIGHT CONTROL LEVER on the left side of the steering wheel. It's more difficult, and a true geek prefers the additional challenge.
I did the headlight flasher EV mode and it is sooo COOL! Wasn't too bad an install either, just have to take your time. Patience is needed whenever any wires are being dealt with. I LOVE that I can force an EV mode (under the proper conditions). The car WON'T go into EV mode unless certain conditions are met first, so the system 'protects' itself. I've noticed no change in MPG overall (have just over 1,200 miles since doing the mod). But it is cool to just pull the flasher lever and beep you're in! Drive fun, drive clean, drive Prius!
